I hate wearing a suit. I used to do that shit, hated every second of it, don’t even own a suit jacket now, much less a tie.

I’ve taken massive pay cuts just to not wear a suit.

If I’m invited to your funeral, expect flip flops.

I feel like women pay more attention to men when they wear fancy clothes because they think men who wear them must have money.

The difference is huge. I've lived as a scruffy, long haired, bearded musician and also as a clean cut, jacket and shirt type and the attention from women is night and day. I generally only do full suit and tie for events where everyone is dressed like that because it feels like it's too much in a more casual setting

You're treated differently by everyone, people go out of their way to open doors for you and literally encourage you to cut in line if you look like you're in a hurry.

Normally I'm a long haired, bearded biker guy but every year when the weather gets hot I clean up and take myself out for a steak, cigar and a whiskey. It's really worth it just to see the starkly different reactions I'll get within 24 hours of each other.

It's like night and day. I hate wearing my suits so only wear it when I need to - and there are times it is necessary in my line of work; I also scrub up quite well when suited. In shops you get far more service, in bars you get far more attention.

A few thoughts on this:

A good suit, as many have observed, has an amazing impact. It says one thing, and one thing only, that, as someone else pointed out, causes panties to hit the floor for five hundred feet in every direction: power.

If you are over 30 and take pride in looking like a frat boy, you need to grow up and seriously up your game.

If you're going to buy a suit, SPEND SOME FUCKING MONEY. Cheap suits look cheap. That means Italian or English, tailored, made out of top-shelf fabric. My go-to is a Canali, which set me back $2,000. Worth every dime.

Along with the suit, you also need first-class everything else. Shoes. Belt. Shirt. Tie (really important). For example, a decent pair of shoes is around $400. Oh, and by the way, they have to be polished. Go to Brooks Brothers or Nordstrom or somewhere and let them help you.

Everything has to fit perfectly. Get it tailored. Nothing is worse than a guy whose shirt collar is too tight, and being squashed by his neck, for example, or someone in a baggy suit.

French cuffs and cuff links are stupid. So are tie clips.

The idea is not to look trendy or hip. The idea is to look powerful, understated. Look at what Presidents wear (except Trump) or men in the British royal family.or CEOs or partners in big law firms That cut of their suits, the fit, the color, all of it -- that's the look you want. Go to the website of an AmLaw 100 law firm, and look at what the partners are wearing in their pictures. These guys are making a couple million dollars a year. The know how to wear suits. Or this guy. He's chairman of Chevron. Last year, he was paid $19 million. He runs a company with $150 billion in revenues. Wearing a suit well is all about very subtle detail. Fine Italian wool just looks and feels different, better. A correctly fitted shirt will have cuffs that extend 1/4" from your jacket cuffs, which are at exactly the right place. The pants break perfectly. And so on.

The most important thing about a suit is the body inside it. If you're fat, a suit won't help.

I fucking hate suits. I got a tailored one for my marriage (yes, kill me. Red came too late) but I still hate them. So I refuse to wear them. And I hate ties even more. IIRC the tie was a Norman invention: all men from conquered lands were forced to have a rope around their neck So they could hang them in case of insubordination.

Now wearing a suit in those rare occasions that I did I saw women being able to drown a toddler in their panties. So this one and don't liking the discomfort less is the main reason I will not wear suits. I dress as shabby as possible to keep certain bodyparts as dry as possible. Only in extreme rare occasions. I feel that if I wear a suit for you, that means I respect you to the highest level possible.

I prefer dressing like I don't give shit these days, unkept hair, clean t-shirt, hoodie, jeans, and sneakers. Suits are for days I want to wear them for myself.

Silicon valley. If you wear the engineer's suit: t-shirt, jeans, shoes, with/with out a hoodie, and work at a solid company or pre-IPO startup, you are a HVM and can date well above your level. You don't even wear a suit to an interview.
