I read it. I have been depressed for 20 years. I read this book to try to find meaning in my life, because I thought if I could find meaning, I could strive for something, or do something, and not be depressed.

I got nothing out of this book. I do not understand it, or why so many people recommend it. The meaning in my life is to suffer with dignty ? No thanks. The meaning in my life is to choose not to be sad when I have nothing I want ? Na sorry. The meaning in my life is what ? I have no idea. Either I don't get what this guy is saying or what he is saying just doesn't work for me.

I'm 24. I read this book when I was 22 for an online class.

I highly recommend the book. It is worth 5 minutes of your every day to read it and finish.

Dr. Frankl explained that people can patch and fulfill their life by having a purpose or a sense of duty. I firmly believe the majority of people in this world can go on with life by having a sense of purpose. However, the sense of purpose needs to be chosen by you, not your parents or your friends.

Have you heard what happens to veterans who return home? They lose a sense of purpose & direction, and it mentally kills them. I see this all the time, in the military. When guys return come to a new unit, where the tempo is not focused on deploying but doing "meaningless" tasks (like training all the time, or just stupid shit). They lose their shit and get pissed.

Having a purpose, a reason to wake up and keep pushing is essential to good mental health. For some, it's hard to find. I think part of it is people try to find a purpose (AKA something to do), but they lack passion. Imagine you're my son, and I'm your father. I own a multibillion enterprise. I will pass it on to you, and you will continue with the legacy. I'm giving you a purpose, but do you have the passion to stick to it? If you think I'm bullshitting, you, go to Quora and read the stories of young people from uber wealthy families who don't want to manage the family business.

Today, I was literally reading the story of a 19 year old boy who didn't want to manage the family business, and busted crying to his girlfriend ( a bit pathetic...), but it proves my point. When you combine purpose & passion, you'll have a recipe for a fulfilled life. But only you know what dish you want.

Read it 40 or so years ago. He was a psychologist and he describes his experiences in several concentration camps. The book is pretty intense as I recall. In all fairness, there was some question as to whether or not it all happened as he said. I might add that it's pretty hard to overstate what the Nazis did.
