You lucked out. I literally lost everything I owned except for my car and a bag of clothes. One of my lawyers put it to me like this. "With this woman, your probably got out cheaper this way rather than having to be with her the rest of your life. " He was right.
[–]LetsGoAllTheWhey78 points79 points80 points 9 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link
Easy for him to say. He got paid for it.
[–]iliketosmellmypoop33 points34 points35 points 9 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link
Yeah it's sickening how much of a business divorce is for lawyers.
[–]Argosy3730 points31 points32 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The only reason there's a market for what they do is because of women.
[–]10J18R1A11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
Marriage is just a business contact anyway.
[–]iliketosmellmypoop12 points13 points14 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
That's the reason my girlfriend of 5 years broke up with me. She said if we don't get married I'm out. I said if that's all that's holding us together take it easy. She said marriage would prove to her that i loved her and I laughed and said marriage only proves that you are a few steps closer to a heart attack for myself. So we broke up and she thought I would beg for her back. After a few weeks I found quiet time quite nice without her female point of view. Now it's all hookers for me. If I ever get married it will be to someone not from the U.S. The entitlement of women here is ridiculous. Until then hookers and doing whatever the fuck I want works for me.
[–]africansn0w0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What's best way to find hookers without gf finding out? They seem like a good option however I can't find any!
[–]iliketosmellmypoop1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If you pay like 100 bucks go to P411. They verify who you are so nobody gets arrested. You need to provide like a license and a paystub to make sure your not law enforcement and your info is destroyed once verified. Then you can shop for hookers in your area. Usually anywhere from $250 up for an hour with no worries of being arrested. Check out the escorts section in reddit
[–]wasthereadogwithyou0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Now it's all hookers for me.
Jeeez. That seems pretty extreme. Are you having a hard time finding non-literal whores in your area?
[–]iliketosmellmypoop1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Not really. There are streetwalkers everywhere but they are hooking for drugs so higher likelihood of catching a disease, getting robbed, ect.. with these professionals this will not happen. I mean it could but less likely. And plus the actual whores who just wanna fuck usually have too much baggage. I like the simple pleasure of being treated like a king for an hour then having nothing to do with women for another couple of weeks. Some guys need more companionship, not me.
[–]wasthereadogwithyou1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Holy shit, I have a bad feeling about this. I'm not passing judgement or anything, it's just that I can feel our society crying out in pain like a wounded animal.
[–]Argosy372 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Except that it's not a business contract. It's a contract with the state, who will use its power to screw you over come divorce even if you never signed any such thing.
It's why I think the government should get out of marriage any make it all private contracts. Would at least force some people to realize the implications of what they're doing when they sign that piece of paper.
[–]fmanly0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
It's why I think the government should get out of marriage any make it all private contracts.
I have to agree on this one. Back when the gay marriage debate was raging I would take the position that it is only a problem because we have the government setting regulations on it. There isn't a single problem that is solved by having the government involved in regulating marriage.
People point to the need to sort out custody disputes, but people can have kids if they aren't married. People point out the need to sort out property ownership, but people can cohabitate and jointly own property without being married.
Marriage is basically a boilerplate contract with really dumb terms.
If you de-regulated it then people could come up with their own contracts if they wish. I'm sure religious institutions would publish boilerplate contracts that are compatible with the particular brand of morality they preach.
Even so, I'm not sure that this could completely fix marriage, because there are limits on what you can legally put into a contract. You can't contractually obligate somebody to sleep with you. However, you probably could structure asset ownership so that the guy doesn't get screwed if the relationship ends. You won't be able to get around things like child support and custody though because a court is going to naturally want to look out for the best interests of the child, and we know what that means...
[–]Argosy370 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What if you include mandatory arbitration in the contract, so a court can't be used?
[–]fmanly0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Well, you'd still need to fix the laws to even allow that. I doubt that a court would accept an arbitration clause for a lot of the issues you'd want to use one for. I guess it depends on the nature of the contract.
If this was about two people co-owning a house, and it says that husband pays 90% of the mortgage and wife pays 10%, and if they decide to leave either party can buy out the other's share or sell the house and split the money 90/10, then I think a court would be fine with that.
If the clause said that wife gets the kids after a divorce but the husband doesn't have to pay support, a court might allow arbitration, but would also be likely to accept appeals if they felt the arbitrators didn't get it right, because the child is at stake and the child didn't sign the contract.
That in and of itself isn't unreasonable. What is unreasonable is what courts tend to do next.
[–]IronPimpernel5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Some of them are pretty redpilled. My mate's divorce lawyer held the belief that divorces should be clean, cheap and quick. His rates were about a quarter of what my buddy's ex-wife's lady-lawyer charged and he worked her down to a no-fault settlement and kept all his assets.
[–]iliketosmellmypoop5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well that's a good ethical lawyer unfortunately he is part of the minority. I saw my friend age like 20 years in 2. The lawyers and his ex cunt took everything from him without batting an eye. He just let it happen because he said he didn't want the kids to suffer but she bad mouthed him and could care less what she said around the kids. I now understand why some men murder their wives.
[–]IronPimpernel5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I saw my friend age like 20 years in 2.
Yeah this still happened. A good lawyer only gets you so far when the judicial system is eyeing you up, wringing it's hands and watering at the mouth.
He just let it happen because he said he didn't want the kids to suffer but she bad mouthed him and could care less what she said around the kids.
If divorce was a sport, children are the ball. If one parent can turn the children against the other, the courts will see the behavior of the children around the other parent and make the assumption that it's the parent that's scaring the children - not the cunt spewing bullshit.
[–]NoThirst4 points5 points6 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
...it's literally all that 90% of them do.
[–]LetsGoAllTheWhey2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well, quite a few of them are in the slip and fall law suit industry.
[–]NoThirst1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
...ambulance chasers have to take a risk. If they lose the case they generally don't get paid. Divorce on the other hand. $5-10k minimum for having your legal assistant fill out some forms. Which is why we will never...ever...get "no fault" divorce laws changed.
[–]gods_bones1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Agreed. I would never trust whatever line a divorce lawyer comes up with to reassure his clients. No matter how you split it, his lawyers and her lawyers are only going to get paid from his salary, and both sides want as much of it as possible.

My brother recently got divorced. Wife initiated it (you don't say??), and they have 1 child.
Actually, he lawyered up asap with my Dad's former attorney (of all things), which is known for being fairly cutthroat and going out of his way for a good settlement, etc.
Either way, it was a 50/50 split, and both attorneys and judge said it was one of the 3 peaceful/least drama related divorces they had seen in the last 30 years.
I personally am thankful I never got into that mess.

I called off my wedding ten days before the event.
She backed up a truck and took nearly everything but my clothes while I was at work.
I didn't even care. i was a student just past graduation, what little I had was pretty old and worn out. Couple thousand dollars. Better to get robbed at that point than years later down the road.

No, she gets half regardless of kids. You just don't have to pay child support. In his case, he had no assets to split either.

Now the good life begins. Your days of chains and cotton are over.
Getting divorced is like getting fired from a job. But is it a failure? What if your next job pays more and you're happier, then getting fired was the best thing for you.
I got through my divorce by treating life as a rpg. After divorce I was level 1. In my case I had to go right back to basics. From living in a house to a rental apartment. Back at the start I didn't even have a bed, I was literally sleeping on a matress on the floor.
Within 2 years, I now have a kick ass apartment, much better paying job, a whole lot of new found life. Things are very good.
Not ruling out the possibility of another long term relationship, but I'm highly selective and can spot red flags easier and I'm not desperate for one either. If it happens it happens, otherwise I love being in control of my life.
Congrats.

Bravo. You dodged a bullet.

Man my entire high school life my mom always used to ask why I never brought a girl home to my house, I'm in college right now, having one night stands and loving life but I always remember high school and I've come to two conclusions: 1. Relationships are the fastest way to drain your hard earned money 2. (In the most none disrespectful way) women are like stray cats, if you feed them or bring them to you're house, they always stick around as if it's theirs. I'm 19, and I know I have tons of years to experience but one thing I know for sure, life is what you make it, congrats on getting out of something you didn't want anymore.
