This may actually lead to companies hiring less female employees. It's counter-productive to hire someone that can skip work and get paid for it once a month. Adding maternity leaves and the repercussions of #MeToo on the job market, this regressive rhetoric limits further the chances of any company considering hiring the 'fairer' sex.

This already happens en Argentina (the latin american Misandrism capitol). Women have art. 22 if they are under police employment, which is 'a paid day off for menatruation each month'. Even if they are a math teacher, teaching at a police school.

On top of that, female teachers have 'female frank' (franco femenino), which is the same thing.

Best part: none of the people who use it, use it for their periods. They use it as an extra free day.

What's funny is that people on both sides of this argument do not understand economics. It doesn't matter who is told to pay for this. Who actually pays is determined by elasticity curves. If the labor market is tight and employers are desperate for any labor at all (extremely unlikely), the employers pay the bill. If the labor market is normal and there are more unemployed people than there are jobs to fill, women are the ones who pay for period leave because it makes it harder to get a job. You either get paid $50k without period leave or you get $45k plus period leave. As you ask for more non-cash compensation, your cash compensation will decrease because the value of your labor has not increased.
