Interestingly, I've read* that whilst women are more likely to attempt suicide. Men are, unfortunately more likely to actually die through their suicide attempt.

Weird flex I know.

That explains my experience in the sub. I made a post their once just looking for some help. I put in a bit of details about myself, including that i am a a mid 30s male. I left the post up for a few hours and didn't get a single comment. I ended up deleting my comment and unsubbed. Felt like unsubbing from life..

If i recall the numbers from my training stuff, women are x2 the rate on attempted suicide while men "succeed" more.

The reason being women choose things like pills to end it, where men choose ways where, it's over. There is no possibility of being saved. Atleast on average.

The question is then, is this a manipulation of data? Here me out. The fact that women are more likely to pick a way where they can be saved appears as a cry for attention. It's like, I'm going to end it, but if you stop me thats cool too. On the other hand men jump or shot themselves in which its over, or so you'd hope.

My point is, I think that a part of those "attempted" suicides are actually not that at all. It's more of super dangerous attention seeking, rather than actuslly trying to end your life.

I can't speak for the mind set of a woman, but as a man you feel like ending it because you're a failure and the world doesn't need you. The world is better off without you. I've been there. I'd argue people that use things like pills that have a far lower death rate than a gun dont feel that way. They just want proof that someone does care.

I don't think it's a man or woman thing, it's just those types are prefered. There would be men and women that do the opposite of the trend I see.

So my point is, I don't think more women try to kill themselves than men. The key word being kill. More women try/do hurt themselves.

Mental health affects both sexes, but I say suicide is a bigger issue for men.

When you combine the two statistics, you get 1% of women dying from suicide attempts versus 11% of men.

So this is pretty misleading. Women attempt suicide more often, but men are more successful most research says that Men and Women suffer suicidal tendencies at similar rates.

But I would also question this claim, has anyone measured or researched representation of suicidal ideation in media?
