There are a lot of things women can say that men simply can't. I suppose the inverse is true to some degree too, although off-hand I can't really think of what.

A coworker wore a new outfit yesterday. It was very sharp looking, professional, clean lines. I wanted to tell her it was an excellent choice in outfit. No one else had though, and I didn't want it taken the wrong way... so I said nothing. I bet she didn't receive a single compliment on it all day except for from women, who are then perceived as more friendly and social than men for saying so.

It's called bait. I've seen a woman tell a dirty joke, later she hears a guy she doesn't like repeat her joke... She went to HR and he was unemployed the following Monday.

Oh and HR did an investigation and the ladies found that poor bastard guilty of insensitivity. And no, they didn't give a shit that she'd told the joke earlier because no one reported her for telling it... It' would be reprisal to report her after the fact. I shit you not.

The thing is, it's very telling that you mention 20 years ago. We all know sometimes women want to be chummy or talk like the guys and whether its then or now, it's not really something that would get a woman in trouble, it's just something that would raise an eyebrow.

Women call that "privilege" when men do or get away with these kinds of things, even though we all know a man who did this to a group of women would be escorted out of the building before he could even finish his sentence.

We can't really talk about female "privilege," it seems, because here on reddit, many women simply deny that such a thing could even exist.

Ever hear someone say "black people can't be racist by definition?" I look at this similarly -- "privilege" is all about patriarchy!

When I was in the service, I worked with women like this. My buddies and I just thought of them as one of the guys. It was nice not to have to worry about gender and political correctness around them. Now I work in an office...
