Any credible study on false accusations?

The thing studies range all over the place. I've seen anywhere from 2% to 60%. It can vary by country/culture as well.

My guess is somewhere around the 20-30% range, and most studies seem to be roughly there.

I’ve read through a number and I think they are all faulty. All I can confidently say is studies claiming only 2-10% clearly omit many false accusations and studies claiming 90% are similarly extremely flawed. Obviously, the truth is somewhere in between, but that leaves a lot of potential territory.

Those studies are typically about police reporting but I’ll point out accusations other than false police reports have consequences to falsely accused men as well such as MeToo and college Title IX accusations, and it stands to reason the false reporting in such areas is probably much higher than filing false police reports.

This Wikipedia article summarizes the major studies so you can check out their methodology for yourself. (Which I’ve actually done and found them all obviously flawed).

You can get any number you want by framing the issue in different ways, so I don’t think there is any right answer. At a subjective level I think if the accused is someone the woman knows it’s probably something like one third false accusations with some level of malice, one third the guy did something he shouldn’t have, and one third just a difference in perception but neither side really did anything wrong. Obviously when the accused is a stranger it’s less likely (but not impossible) that it’s a false accusation.

It's more of a comprehensive meta-analysis, but given the number of studies Aydin goes through in the linked video, there may be some in there that you might consider more accurate than others.

However, you must realize that any claim of sexual assault would have to be "fully disproved" to meet the impossible standard that ideologues have created in this controversial arena. In other words, you must completely prove the negative. In any situations where that is the case, you're better off just ignoring the data and instead focusing on pointing and laughing at the arbitrary and ridiculous ruler/measurement that they have chosen.

One of the interesting classification questions I've run across is when a "Case closed as informational report"-type resolution is given to an investigation into a sexual assault claim. From studies I've seen, these run in the 20-25% range. This is when an accuser does not apply the law correctly, and after establishing the facts of the case (the accused may or may not be interviewed to confirm there are no discrepancies in what happened), it is closed because no crime was committed.

Is this a false accusation? I would say yes, given that ignorance of the law does not protect a person from the consequences for their actions if they break that same law. Now if it ends up just wasting police time and resources, then that is a matter for them to deal with. However, it becomes much more serious when a person makes such a reckless false accusation without full knowledge of the law in a public manner. That's like shouting: "He has a gun!" to try and get others to inflict violence upon an innocent person.

In FBI DNA testing, about 25% of accused rapists are proved innocent.

Keep in mind DNA does not test consent, so this actually indicates a lot more than 25% of accusations are false.

Also consider the difference between an accuser making a false claim and a person being falsely accused.

A person can be falsely accused for a number of reasons beyond a malicious accuser. For example, the wrong person is identified as the suspect, or the accuser sincerely believes they were a victim of a crime, but no crime occurred.
