Guys, we need to talk about how we express ourselves about feminism.

Gender-reveal parties go further than that: They’re a reinforcement of binary gender. Despite the mainstream trans visibility and gay rights movements, gender reveals show that we are traditionalists who are eager to amplify dominant cultural narratives. It still belies an obsession with fitting people into one of two neat categories—Pistols or Pearls?—and imposes gendered traits and behaviors before a child has even left the womb. Celebrating that your baby is destined to either experience a lifetime of emotional suppression while being encouraged to be violent and self-serving or be treated as a second-class citizen with avenues of opportunity withheld, strikes me as a tad macabre—but maybe I’m just bad at getting into the spirit of these things.

Gee, and this is the first time I've even heard of Gender Reveal parties.

You can now, apparently, oppress trans and gay people in the comfort of your home by throwing a party for your baby-to-be.

encouraged to be [...] self-serving

I still don't understand what toxic masculinity is, if this is it. Every image of masculinity I was given was about heroic self-sacrifice for the sake of everyone around you. You're a man, so die bloodily for somebody, or work yourself to death at a desk job to support your family, and that'll be the basis of your manhood.

You have to realize where these people are coming from (if possible).

For example, in a conversation with feminists a long time ago, in a discussion about the men who died on the Titanic, I learned that these evil self-serving men only let the ladies live to protect their property. I kid you not. Somehow, no matter what you do, your motivation is, as a member of the Evil Male Heteropatriarchy[tm] in good standing, to oppress women for fun and profit.

gay rights movement

As someone who has actually been involved in the gay rights movement, this sort of thing really gives me the shits. In what way does a gender reveal party have anything to do with gay rights? Certain currents within trans activism get their knickers in a knot over stuff like this sure, but those tend to be the same currents that go after lesbians for not wanting to sleep with transwomen because they are biologically male (and paradoxically sometimes gay men who don't want to sleep transwomen because they actually respect their female identities and don't want to sleep with a woman - I shit you not, this has happened to me). Getting sick of being used to support this stuff that is completely unrelated to gay rights when all I ever wanted was to be left alone to live my life how I chose.

What's that Jordan B. Peterson Quote?

"Cultural marxists hide in historically marginalized groups as shields to promote their agenda".

That's the gist, I can't find the quote.

Just another chance to have a party where the gal is the center of attention.

[–]BanSpeech 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

By not archiving these sites, you are giving them money for click revenue. Try to use archive.is in the future for feminist rags.

[–]RedditIsMyCity 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

This is going to sound absolutely retarded. But how do I archive a web page.

[–]BanSpeech 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not retarded at all bro. Copy the the url of the page you are on, go to archive.is, paste the url where it tells you to, then copy the new url that the site makes. Use the new url anywhere you would have linked the original. It's super easy once you do it.

Oh ok thanks

[–]not_just_amwac 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm pretty sure the only reason they're called "gender reveal" is because "sex reveal" sounds oh-so wrong.

Hate movement spread hate. It's what they do.

Assuming that your objective reality is real also is phobic of people who hallucinate! All realities matter!

[–]Headbanger5 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Well then I guess I'm a transphobic sexist. My future wife wants a party for our boy or girl she is gonna get one.

[–]Pz5 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Its a feminist website appropriately named.

[–]RedditIsMyCity 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yes this is probably satire. The URL does have "bitch" in it after all. But most everyone on r/feminism is agreeing and that's the scary part about this.

[–]ContemporaryBelle 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I know it seems like a logical thing for this to be satire but I am pretty sure it isn't. Feminists have tried to reclaim "bitch" (among other words) as a positive word when used between women or towards themselves. I would certainly buy the notion a feminist blogger might try to use bitch in their URL to be "empowered". I have seen multiple articles like this circulating on FB. There really are people who believe it is wrong and discriminatory to have a gender reveal party because they don't think you can know your child's gender until the child decides their gender for themselves. It's insane but this is real life.

[–]Throwaway_Old_Guy 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Honestly, don't parents (to-be) have better things to worry about than throwing a gender reveal party? I'm glad they weren't a thing when mine were younger, so we never had to endure one.

So long as the child is born healthy, has all the right number of parts and in the correct places, nothing else matters.

[–]Blu3Skies 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah for my little girl her mom and I just did videos to tell close family. A party is a bit over the top.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is why you ignore the lgbt movement. Mentally ill people should not be taken seriously unless a medical problem or a crime.
