In high risk situations, men are the first to be sent. Think war, active crime scenes, dangerous rescues, high hazard workplaces like mining and logging, and so on.

In contrast, women are the first to be removed from risky situations.

Men may not be treated as completely disposable, but they are ordinarily treated as greatly more disposable, and women are usually treated as precious and indispensable. There is a huge difference in the willingness to risk men and women. By contrast, men are treated as disposable.

Societies can better endure the loss of males, because a small group of males can impregnate many females, and so in that way men are more disposable.

That emotional attitude is pushed out to many things it shouldn't be pushed to, but I can understand why people might have that logic in a war torn society.

Yes.

Men are treated as invisble or dangerous generally and their communities learn to adapt quickly to their absence. Given our tendency to war, I would say that our society is designed with rigid sockets for men to fit into in case one abruptly dies, so much so that less desirable males are discarded except in hard times that make them absolutely necessary.

Lol that guy must be fucking stupid, yeah men can't get pregnant but men are also the reason women are able to get pregnant. A sperm and an egg need to meet each other to have a baby. The man has the sperm, the woman has the egg. That's like saying women are disposable because they can't fertilize the egg. You literally need both genders to have a child, no men aren't disposable. He's the reason the woman can even have a kid in the first place.

Look, it is not that we think men should be treated as disposable. You are taking the issue the wrong way. The question you should be asking yourself is "are men treated as if they are disposable?", look for evidence for and against it, and draw your conclusion.

So, let's see at ways men are treated as disposable :

men are the only one ever drafted for wars. If your nation needs to sacrifice people to a meat grinder, it will be men.
men are the most likely target if all kinds of violence. Which means that far more men are, for example, victims of robbery than women. Which means that if there is someone out there seeking to rob someone, that person will often prefer robbing a man, who is usually bigger, taller, more muscular, than a woman, which means that a robber will prefer to attack a harder pray rather than a woman.
the first safety regulations at work were introduced as a consequence of women workers. Men could die or get mutilated on the job, it didn't bother anyone enough to get into action.
men still make the overwhelming majority of people injured on the job. If a job is risky, we consider it's a man's job. Fun fact, a few years ago, some safety improvements reduced the number of men dying on the job. It created a shift in the proportion of women to men dying on the job, which had journals printing things like "the percentage of women dying on the job increased! We need to do something about that!"

women and children first has been a thing that has been enforced of all times.
when there's a noise downstairs, it's the man who is expected to go see if there's a danger And the list goes on. One thing to notice is that those phenomenon are observed cross culturally. Nowhere will you find human groups that generally treat their men as more precious than their women. This is generally a good indicator of a behavior that is at least partly biological.

So what can we do to know if it is really at least partly biological? We can take a look for example at our nearest cousins : chimpanzees. Turns out that male chimpanzees conduct wars, too. And it starts taking species that are very different from ours in the way they act to find males that aren't treated as disposables.

So, that kind of look like a strong case for men being treated as disposable on an instinctual level.

Now, don't be mistaken, the fact that it is an instinct doesn't mean that it is something we can't do anything about. But the first thing for doing something about it is being aware of that state of things. There are plenty of instincts against which we go everyday, through training.

Stating a fact is not the same as saying you think it's morally right. Yes, men are treated as disposable by most of the population. No one gives a fuck about men as a whole, like they do women as a whole, or children as a whole. There is a "think of the childrens!" mentality that pushes shit legislation. Same with "think of the womens!". Most people don't give a fuck about men as a whole, only a handful of men they know and love, if even that many. That's not the way it should be, but it is the way it is. Denying that reality will not change it.

If you want the gold standard for the explanation of male disposability, I’d recommend Dr Warren Ferrell’s “myth of male power.” I believe he has credit for the concept of male disposability.

I dont think any of us are arguing that men “should” be disposable, but that society holds that attitude. The patriarchy demands it if you will. It takes considerable effort to get men prepared for war and self sacrifice, lots of social conditioning, so I’m not too fond of biological fatalism with this argument.

The bottleneck is an important concept though. For a long time women were needed to birth more soldiers. They would die in childbirth, while the men die in the mines or war. Humans have done some awful things for survival.

Males are most definitely disposable within the context of the games we play.

If producing and caring for children is the name of the game, then yes, men are considered disposable. Less so now than in days gone by, with the invention of baby formula but still disposable.

As far as whether they are actually disposable, look to the current society. Males have been mostly removed from parenting and generally aren't allowed to interact with children (except their own).

Don't talk to strangers is the teaching we've all been brought up with. Everyone knows it's really "don't talk to strange men". I would say for the most part, men have been disposed of. Except where labor doing hazardous work is concerned.
