High school girls admitted to targeting and falsely accusing a boy of sexual assault because they 'just don't like him'. Boy was fired from his job, forced to serve time in a juvenile detention facility, is now home-schooled and suffers psychological trauma. School officials just didn’t care.

I browsed your posting history. You have a big heart.

[–]AloneAlone25 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I honestly try, but most of the time it seems that society only wants certain people to be treated like human beings and to Hell with the rest. But these are my principles and I won't alter or abandon them.

"all US workers, all occupations" (not just the ones listed here)

What’s Worse — Glass Ceilings or Glass Cellars?
Apex fallacy. Glass cellar. Feminine imperative. All of these, he argued, are contributing to a “war on men” in the workplace. This was an issue I’d asked about in my essay called “The Silent Sex” in the March issue of HBR. The apex fallacy is the idea that we use the most visible members of a group to make generalizations about the entire group; i.e. we see prominent men at the top of the pyramid and think all men are doing well, when, in fact, there are a great many at the bottom of the pyramid too. The glass cellar refers to that lowest tier of hazardous or poorly paid jobs (think firefighters, truckers, lumberjacks, coal miners and construction workers) that are mostly held by men.
Alison Beard, What’s Worse — Glass Ceilings or Glass Cellars?, Harvard Business Review, MARCH 07, 2013

Not sure what the downvotes are about. The article seems balanced to me, albeit short.

How is aircraft pilot the third most dangerous job? Aren’t airplanes like one of the safest things in the world? (I know commercial airplanes are the safest way to travel)

[–]Imnotmrabut 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Airplanes may be safe, but the number of small planes that crash per year increases the number markedly.

[–]AgincourtSalute 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Probably something to do with the frequency of the risk too. A pilot will make as many flights in a week as the average person might in a year. If you do something more often you are more likely to fail at it. And a pilot only needs to fail once.....

[–]Adrelinen 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The average pilot will fly about 10 times a week. That's far more than the average person will in a year (1.7 per year in the UK)

I guess I’m confused. Wouldn’t the 53% of workplace fatalities over all US jobs being male indicate that the other 47% is female? How is this possible when all of the most lethal jobs are showing an overwhelming majority of male deaths?

[–]red_philosopher 15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No. 53% of All male deaths occur in the top 20 deadliest professions.

https://www.bls.gov/iif/oshwc/cfoi/cfch0014.pdf

Shows that the ratio of male to female workplace fatalities is 93:7

[–]Ciancay 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thank you for the clarification!
