What is masculinity? English Wikipedia defines masculinity is a set of attributes, behaviors, and roles associated with men and boys. In fact, it's the poststructuralist definition of this term. Not all people say it's the correct definition, but it's the definition of masculinity in poststructuralist philosophy, according to which gender is a social construct.
But we live in a misandrous society. So if we accept the poststructuralist logic, we can add: associated with men and boys by misandrous society.
Perhaps we masculists shouldn't call this set masculinity and find another word. But we can agree that this set of attributes, behaviors, and roles associated with men and boys by misandrous society really exists. This set obviously can be 'toxic', because the misandrous society has misandrous associations.
Non-misandrous society don't associate women with beauty and empathy and men with agression, homophobia, sexual assault etc. This set is really toxic because society is misandrous.
Non-misandrous society doesn't say that women are 'fairer sex'.Non-misandrous society doesn't say that only some men are 'real men'. All men are real.Non-misandrous society doesn't associate men with sexual abuse.
So...What masculinity we should protect? If we should protect masculinity, we also should protect non-poststructuralist definition of masculinity. Because if we accept the poststructuralist definition of masculinity, we shouldn't protect masculinity. We really don't need the set of attributes, behaviors, and roles associated with men in boys by misandrous society. If misandrists associate men with sexual abuse, it doesn't mean we should protect sexual abuse. We should protect men's rights, not this set.
