In the EU this is illegal. I expect UK men's car insurance rates will spring up again in a few years.

I've thought a long time about this and I think it largely has to do with the simple fact that car insurance is compulsory and health insurance is not. Think about it, what better thing for corporations who want to screw people over than make a product that the government makes mandatory for people to buy? That's really the only reason I can think of that they'd do something like this other than to simply be assholes because using statistics to price a demographic off the road is ridiculous, they shouldn't be able to do that to anyone.

People like to preach tons about the 'risk' involved with insuring young men on the roads, but they also completely forget that the car insurance is compulsory and that this means men are essentially being priced off the roads completely.

I'm lucky, I could get on my parents insurance legally and it's not hideously expensive, it's still ridiculous but compared to what I'd have to pay on my own.

Oh and before the know-it-alls come in lecturing me, I'm talking about the most basic third party car insurance and no this doesn't involve stuff like a turbo charged honda civic or anything like that.

I wish people would do their research on these subjects, they have absolutely no idea what it's like being in your 20's and being told because you are young and have a penis you have to pay £5000+ for a fucking Nissan micra and no I'm not making that up. That was one of the ridiculous quotes I remembered getting when going onto one of those price comparison sites and looking at all the major insurance companies.

When people use the risk argument, they are completely forgetting about the fact car insurance is compulsory in most countries if you want to drive, so they're basically inadvertently saying young people shouldn't be able to drive at all. Ironically though, I think this is a big thing that is contributing to unemployment amoung the younger generation because of course they can't get their own cars, travel around and generally help the economy grow.

I'm with you 100% that it's bullshit, but the problem is in the UK at least there is a whole car insurance cartel right now and it is completely backed by the government who refuse to do anything about it.

Hands down they do pay more for disability insurance than a man of the same age does.

Car insurance rates normalize at 25 or when the man is in a common-law or married relationship. We have tonnes of data backing up the change I driving habits.

It is not discriminatory since we have years upon years of data backing up the reasons. Young men take more risks on average than young women.

Canadian Insurance Broker here, I see this everyday. And I see the data as to why it is the way it is.

Good news men pay less for disability insurance, we get hit on the life insurance side. Statistics prove that women are more to be disabled and men are more likely to die.

Interesting tidbit of info though, per mile travelled, men have less claims than women. That is a fact, with multiple studies confirming it. Sure men have more accidents, but men drive far more than women do.

Part of the health care costs (but not even half of it) is related to childbirth, which I feel should be split evenly. A lot of child free mra's would disagree, though.
Men's health care costs are lower not because they don't need it, but because they don't use it. They are less likely to even show up to the doctors, let alone tell them what is bothering them. Conversely, some women like to bitch, and they cost everyone a shitload of money.
As is commonly said, women get sick, men die. Dying is cheap. If men were better about showing up to the doctors, they would live longer and those last yers cost exponentially more.

You can look at it like we are choosing to spend more money on women, but you can also look at it like men are leaving money on the table. Both perspectives are true.
