"#MeToo is over if we don’t listen to ‘imperfect victims’ like Amber Heard"; Gross article denies Men can be victims of abuse & encourages people to never believe Men. Individuals such as this are why so many Men feel uncomfortable about opening up or seeking support.

If it takes this much pain & suffering for someone as wealthy/famous as Johnny Depp to get justice, imagine the amount of struggling the average man goes through in a False Accusation

How many of those men not applying were diagnosed neurodivergent, had stronger doubts about the ability to a land a job after getting a college education than their peers and had social skills or personality issues (which contrary to popular belief, are not so easy to fix) I wonder?

Clearly the enrollment and underemployment issue among men will be the next issue to get a lot of coverage highlighting how women are outperforming men, specifically in western countries where unlike other places, people take high youth unemployment and lack of education as a deeply disturbing sign and shaming of unemployed men is pretty common ("mommy's basement", "loser, get a job").

You mean the state I was sexually assaulted in and made homeless and forced into hiding of continued death threats? Not surprising

Holy shit. I am sorry man. Are you ok now?

[–]Tang_of_pussy 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Still in hiding because the state of WA is refusing to even look at it.

Damn. Take care of yourself.

The challenge around men is something that the entire higher education community is trying to figure out,” said Jan Yoshiwara, executive director of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.

Theories abound, tapping into the state’s blue-collar roots, notions of masculinity and changing ideas about college in the internet age. That’s apart from oft-heard complaints about the spiraling college costs and student debt, and a conservative critique of campuses as bastions of snowflake liberalism.

In essence hostile environment for men, useless degrees (apart from STEM) and debt through the roof. Men are logical, go with trades or certifications, and little to no debt.

Complete bullshit, through and through. I havent come across a single university taking this seriously, and the department of education had gone out of its way to smokescreen the numbers in reports so they can ignore the issue. I wouldn't even hazard to say a minority of the educational community is trying to figure it out.

The Washington Roundtable, a business group, is launching a study to get to the bottom of what’s going on, said its vice president, Neil Strege.

Doesn't say the study is on why men are disappearing from education. It's probably going to focus on the impact of covid just like OCR's report and ignore men. I want to believe someone gives a shit, but I won't until I see it.

We don't need studies. We need colleges to end their extreme focus on helping women while ignoring men. We need OCR to actually enforce civil rights law for men. Fuck your studies. It's a PR placebo for action you know you need to take Washington.

They're trying to figure out how to blame it on the men themselves, so they don't have to admit their institutional guidelines and metrics have been harmful

The education gap is largely explained by 'next-best' employment options and not necessarily any form of discrimination against men. For example, when times are good there are a lot of construction jobs available that pay $25/hr+ and have a lot of upward mobility, so a lot of high schoolers who were on the fence for going to college take those jobs instead. Fortunately (or unfortunately) for men, a lot of these high-paying jobs that don't require four-year degrees are in industries that favor male strengths (like strength). Even as I sit here, I can't think of any traditionally female, high-paying jobs that don't require four-year degrees. Maybe y'all can think of some examples.

Registered nurse

[–]isleno 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That requires a four year degree. Nurse’s tech is a two year degree but they aren’t paid much and there is limited upward mobility.

Men have less scholarship opportunities, as there are less male scholarships available. Boys also get lower grades for the same work throughout primary-secondary school, which would affect their efforts to attend university.

So discrimination against male students is almost certainly a factor, it's really a mathematical certainty.
