I like equality. I really do. I think people should be judged on the content of their character and not on something they can't really change.

My department has a equality committee that has the sole purpose to make sure no one feels excluded. Sounds good.

I don't think anyone should feel like they are excluded at their place of work. We're professionals. This committee has done a great job of bringing people in and feel welcome.

....

So, I was reading their recent slideshow on gender equality. Roughly stating, the committee started xx decades ago with 14/14 men. 30 years ago, the first woman was on the committee. 10 years ago, 7/14 were men and 7/14 were women. Today, 12/14 are women and 2/14 are men.

The presentation was about how they've made things more equal in the workplace between men and women. Using their committee membership as proof of the gender equality.

I was like, 12 women and 2 men is NOT equal. That's basic math.
