Wow, massive amounts of projection there. Sounds like Google is getting better at enforcing HR policy fairly, and that’s a good thing.

Maybe googlers in general should shut up about politics and get back to work.

“It is a cruel irony that Google attempted to justify firing me by claiming that my social networking posts showed bias against my harassers,” Chevalier said in a statement. “The anti-discrimination laws are meant to protect marginalized and underrepresented groups – not those who attack them.”

Well, no the law is meant to protect everybody from workplace discrimination and harassment, not just you.

Call me a tinfoil hat, but I think google's law department approached HR like this: "Hi, it would really help if we could fire another guy from the opposite end to cover up how biased we are. That would really help us to disarm the Damore case."

HR: "Sure, no probs. HR is there to protect the company first and foremost. So whatever helps the company shall be our guideline."

You're implying that Google's lawyers are SJW's. For all we know, it's just their feminist-dominated HR department. So it's probably more like their legal department walked over to HR and said, "You guys really fucked up. We are about to lose a major lawsuit because you allowed this to go on. We better fix this now or it will just get worse."

hence the tinfoil hat disclaimer ;-)

Article title misleading. He is still an engineer. He is an engineer who no longer works for Google.

Damore writes a polite memo: "he should've known better how it was going to be received, it's all his own fault."

Chevalier writes non-stop insulting posts about how people aren't doing diversity right: "it was intended well, so it's all good".

Some of the stories popping up are quite something: https://yro.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=11777367&cid=56168159

The Chevalier lawsuit offers a different spin on the debates that played out on Google’s internal email lists and message boards, which the attorney David Lowe described in a statement as “a cesspool of bullying and harassment”. Google failed to prevent employees from using the internal platforms to discriminate against marginalized groups, the suit alleges, allowing Google employees to call LGBT co-workers “immoral” and post statements such as:“If we have fewer Black and Latin@ people here, doesn’t that mean they’re not as good?”

If these allegations are true, it would seem a bit odd that they fired Damore just for saying that there's biological reasons why statistically a lot of women (obviously not all women) aren't interested in being engineers or upper management.

I suspect maybe some of these comments were rhetorical though. Context can matter.

Like, if someone says "We should hire less white men because the company should reflect its customer base" and someone says "so should we also hire fewer Indians, and East Asians?" then it's obviously just trying to show how stupid the initial argument was.

Chevalier “learned that Google defines appropriate workplace speech by the standard of what someone with a cisgender, heterosexual, white, male, upper-middle-class background would say,” the suit states.

Yet the first one to be fired fit exactly that profile. I bet he won't have 100 pages of evidence unlike Damore.

Narcissist and Borderline personality almost for certain. I have worked with almost a carbon copy of this 'guy'. Horrendous. At least Google managed to fire this one.
