I don't think hats should be worn indoors and many bars will ask you to take them off.

However, there were apparently women in that pub wearing hats and they weren't asked to remove them. Gotta be consistent with your policies.

Why shouldn't they be worn indoors, though? It's a holdover from the past that has no real meaning today.

They told the man it was due to CCTV and being able to recognize faces. So presumably, they'd also ask women wearing hijabs or anything concealing head even more to remove it or leave.

Should that matter though? An establishment should be able to set their own dress code and image.

Not when it unfairly privileges women.

[–]rbsanford 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's just proper etiquette, especially in a place of worship, museum, or memorial.

has no real meaning

By this logical reasoning, we shouldn't wear hats indoors, since they wouldn't have a use. Hats are meant to warm/protect your head and keep the sun out of your eyes and ears, and are most necessary outside.

It's just for racing events when people dress-up. They have a no-hat policy for everyone rest of time.

He should have went elsewhere for a drink, Slug & Lettuce is shit.

We do not discriminate against any of our customers and I was saddened to read you felt this way.

Except that they DID discriminate as a matter of policy so casually they didn't even realize they were doing it...and "saddened you felt this way" is not an apology. It's a backhanded way of saying "it's your fault, not ours".

“I can only apologise for this. We have taken learnings from this going forward.”

Ugh. What a lot of wank.

Helen Charlesworth did a very impressive job handling the situation, very impressive in deed. Fair even handed, and respectful, but with an eye to practicality as well.

Never throw a hat on the bed.

Drugstore Cowboy mentioned this too.

Good. As I've said before we need a range of approaches and methods to tackle men's rights and stop feminism from grinding us into the dirt. Legal methods and highlighting double standards that are unacceptable are one of many important things.

I understand the etiquette nonsense, but is also proper etiquette that an establishment provide proper climate control so a man doesn't freeze his buns off whilst removing said hat. I'll only take it off if it's not ice cold.
