This is exactly why I ignore women in my office. I don't talk to them. I don't chat with them. I don't mentor them. I don't hire them if it can be avoided and I damn sure don't spend any time with them anywhere that even seems remotely private. They are not trustworthy and this is a prime example of why.

And they have a benefit men don’t- they can easily get away with all the above, without question, YET their accusations are taken seriously, not ours.

This whole topic shits me so much. All the feminists I see post about this, whether it's twitter or over at TwoX all fundamentally misinterpret the situation.

"Just don't be rapey, k?"

"Omg don't discriminate against women like that, just don't be a jerk and you'll be fine"

"Lol who cares? Women had to be uncomfortable for decades, time for men to feel the same!"

This is the same sort of crap that is spewed by them and repeated ad infinitum.

The actual thing that's going on here is that there's a fear, whether rational or irrational it doesn't matter - it's still a fear, that a man can be accused of wrongdoing and have his career, reputation and life destroyed with no recourse.

"Just don't rape" won't stop this, because the people who are afraid aren't being creepy/rapey, they're just regular dudes who don't want to end up the victim of some crazy woman trying to climb the ranks through falsely accusing them of harrassment/abuse.

I feel like the major reason for these women thinking this way is related to how they constantly downplay the prevalence and impact of false accusations. They routinely try to say it barely ever happens by reposting those stupid RAINN stats (and conveniently ignore the fact that provably false accusations are about as common as provably true accusations), or they try to insinuate that it doesn't matter as much because rape is more damaging and apparently more common.

This is then used to diminish the very real fears by some men, and attack them for not wanting to put themselves in a potentially compromising situation.

They're more concerned with making themselves feel good by attacking men than they are in actually fixing the problem.

So basically you can't get close with the person you're mentoring? So you actually can't behave with this woman like you would with a man? No wonder they feel uncomfortable staying 100% professional with someone they're supposed to spend lot of time working with, that's just unnatural. Men who work together become friends. Because all this isn't about sexual harassment.
