How do the members of this subreddit feel about so-called "Financial Abortion"? Basically, that women have all the power regarding reproduction, and based on the woman's choice to keep the baby or not, men can be screwed over and forced into servitude for years.

Financial abortion involves the man announcing, after the pregnancy is determined, that he do not want any involvement with the child. I do feel that the man should help the woman financially during the pregnancy; splitting the costs of the doctor's appointments and the birth 50/50 (because they do have to take some responsibility), but after the birth, they give up all parental and custody rights to the child, and they don't pay child support.

The woman would, of course, know about the man's decision to financially 'abort', and she would then make the decision as to whether she wanted to keep the baby or not. If she decides to go through with the abortion, then the man should help to pay for that. If she decides to keep the baby for herself (meaning, she doesn't put it up for adoption), then she alone shoulders the responsibility because she chose to both have the child and keep it.

Ethically, I know that it's questionable, because the child in question might not have a perfect upbringing (just one parent and that parent's income), but the idea is that the woman would not have the child in the first place, or at the very least she would give it up for adoption, if she knew there was no male financial support to keep her afloat. Please keep your replies civil.
