But seriously, it's pretty much just tradition here. Much like how FGM is tradition in the places where it is practiced. The main differences are that FGM is usually (though not always) more severe than MGM, and MGM happens to males, so nobody gives a fuck.

My views on this are very simple. ANY non emergency based modification or mutilation of an infant's body without consent should be illegal. It absolutely amazes me that such a central thing - one's genitals - are fair game to be "edited" after birth. It's sickening. Tradition my ass, animal sacrifice is traditional in some places, does that mean we should tolerate it?
