I've been the sole physical custodial parent for 2 boys for the last 7 years. My 13 year old went down for a summer visit to his mother's and I just got slapped with a summons to fight for custody. Her parents are rich, I'm not. I called a few lawyers and it's 10k to even get them to start. She used to be a meth head. That's why I got custody in the first place. Now she seems to have talked him into wanting to live full time with her. There are a lot of factors but she tried to commit suicide in 2007 and was committed to a mental ward and also is married to a felon. Is there any way to fight this myself? I make too much to qualify for legal aid but have no way to come up with the 10k retainer to even try.

Ideas? Please? Anyone?

Thank you all for your support and advice. I've come to the point that I don't want to make it harder on him as much as I want to make it harder on her. I can't win.
