In Canada, we have seen two Provinces elect NDP (ie; socialist beliefs) governments in the past three years.

I believe this was possible through actively pitching to young voters in large urban areas.

Socialism sounds great. Address the needs of the poor through welfare, tax the wealthy; it is basically fuckin' Robin Hood! How great a story is that?

However, it shows a level of naivety that is impressive. First, it presumes that the poor are only poor because of lack of luck or discrimination of some type. No, I come from a very poor area and can say that while there are many that are, many more are poor due to their own choices.

Do drugs? Almost all well-paying jobs here require drug testing. You can only work minimum wage or nearly min wage jobs that DGAF about drug testing. I have nothing against pot smokers or MJ in general, but you gotta play with the hand that you are dealt. If you choose to do drugs, you will fail drug tests, which means no good job. Giving them money is a temporary solution, as they will need more to make up for the lack of a good job. Or legalize drugs and make it illegal to test for employment, good luck with the second one, especially for insurance purposes.

Second, it presumes that the rich, who can afford to leave, will stick around to be taxed. There are reasons that people flock to tax havens.

Sometimes you just need to see the world for how it is and play a delicate balancing act to make it work.

On this point, I am always stuck wondering how states like Denmark and the Netherlands fit. Communism/socialism is at best idealistic, more often nightmarish. But the crony capitalism we have in the US seems to produce a lower average quality of life compared to the mixed economies/social democrat structures of the two examples I mentioned.

Frankly, I'm anti rich fucker more than I'm probably socalizim.

If you make more than 120k per year and you're an investment broker, or you make it through investments and not work, I hate you. I will still do your taxes, because that's my job, and I won't let it show... But I hate you.

Doctors, plumbers, mechanics and other people who work for a living I'm fine with.

I vote socialist, not to help the poor, but to hurt the rich.
