Talking about this as "payback" completely misses the point. It's about equal treatment under the law.

If his demands represent the type of ass-raping a man usually gets in divorce court there, then damn straight I condone men going for it when the tables are turned. Not because excessive divorce payouts after short-lived marriages are justifiable (they're absolutely not), but because in my opinion the only way that the system will be reformed is if women start suffering under it too.

My hope here isn't for greedy men to actually get outrageous payouts, but that their demands will be rejected, with their cases setting precedents for more reasonable settlements.

Prenups were made legally binding for the first time in the U.K. recently--and wouldn't you know it, the person protected by one in the landmark case was a woman.

The husband's lawyers "argued that it was a clear-cut case of "reverse sexism." "We suggest that it is inconceivable that this result would have been ordained had the sexes been reversed.""

I think they are probably right--which is why every possible effort should be expended to have precedents set for women apply equally to men--and vice versa. This is the only way I can see things coming back to the middle towards fairness.

This is an isolated instance. By focusing on it, you distort the real picture -- which is that men are overwhelmingly the victims in divorce.

Here's the deal: when an opportunity to get a lot of money in a legal way presents itself, most people won't think twice about any "moral" issues, they'll go after it. That's why I don't see how anyone could condone or condemn this behavior. We can agree that, given a fair legal landscape, this guy should get this money, so divorce law is what needs to be condemned. As for this guy? It certainly won't make any woman think twice, and won't comfort the blokes that already lost everything.

You're only stopped from doing things because of fear.

When a group people loses a fear for certain things...you'll notice in increase in execution.

We must ask ourselves...How did they lose their fear? Easy. There are no bad consequences. No punishment whatsoever. In fact, it might even be condoned and supported.

So. What must be done is make that group afraid again. How? By punishing them for what they think is the norm. Show them that you can't just mess with an other group and just walk away from it. Show them by doing the exact same thing to them.

Give them fear and it will balance out.

Yes. It would be better to eradicate it all together...but let's be realistic.
