I am being told that women get paid less because of something i have never heard of before. It's explained to me like this:

"There is the issue that if women start going into a certain profession, the regard for that profession drops, and it becomes a lot less valuable. It happened with 15-16th century breweries, and it happened in education. The teacher used to be a male dominated profession, and was regarded among the eminent members of the community (along with the mayor, the priest, the doctor, and the notary). Now, people see teaching as a womens profession. And it is not very respected at all. (those who can't do, teach etc.)"

I can't seem to find any information on the subject to refute the claims, but suffice it to say that it is a terribly poor excuse, if not outright myth and/or lie. Will someone please give me the tools necessary to refute such a ridiculous claim?
