Or, more simply, men cannot get help because there is no help for them. Take DV in Australia, for example. If your wife is an abuser and you ring a DV hotline, you will be referred to a 'Batterers' program for anger management. In other words, you will be treated as the perpetrator for seeking help.

This is intellectually lazy. Suicide and mental illness are not the same thing. Suicide is a perfectly sane response to enough stress. It is legal in some countries under certain conditions.

Men do not need to "open up". I am tired of hearing this feminizing crap. They need to stop having their children and money needlessly abducted from them and funelled off to the family court-industrial complex. They need a way to get police to take them seriously when their abusive spouses from beat them with weapons in their sleep. They need food to eat and a roof over their head when they lose their job. Do these things and the male suicide rate will plummet.

Women talk about their 'feeelings' all the time, and yet have higher rates of mental illness. What does this tell you?

Those stats only show that women are more likely to be diagnosed with mental problems. They don't say who suffers more. Yes, I'd say men probably have much worse mental health issues just as they have worse health issues for almost everything else. The figures are recording the institutional bias against men in the health industry.

Suicide is a more accurate tally because corpses are harder to misdiagnose (although I think they still miss a lot of male suicides as "drunk traffic accidents").

there is a theory that women see more of doctors in general because of contraceptives, which makes women more comfortable with doctors and more likely to get longer appointments with more holistic advice, where things like depression are more likely to get picked up.

I think women seek out help more than men, as such, they may be diagnosed with a mental illness more often. Sadly, people are more sympathetic to women than men. Women attempt suicide in manners that tend to be less successful then men.

A tearful woman will be diagnosed as depressed, an angry man will be diagnosed as a man.

One thing that can not be ignored is the method of suicide. Women tend to gravitate towards methods like pills, which are far more likely to fail (3% success rate), whereas men tend to shoot themselves in the head, which has a far higher success rate (90% success rate).

The "suck it up" mentality is a factor, but method is an extremely important consideration. One explanation is that women tend to focus on being able to have an open casket, still look presentable.
