I've never been a fan of battered spouse defense. If you're going to have it though, it should be applied in a gender neutral fashion. The issue I have is that will only be a factor in cases involving male defendants.

One of the arguments in ending the death penalty is racial bias. Battered spouse syndrome is bias against men. Until the sexism is removed, it should be barred as a defense. (IMO it should have never been a defense in the first place, only a mitigation.)
