And the feminists are thrilled we encourage boys to go into trades and skip college. College is where the money is if you pick the right major.

[–]rbrockway[S] 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

TBH tradies do quite well these days. There are world-wide shortages in some trades.

[–]Organic-Brotha 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Electricians, plumbers & carpenters can easily make as much or in some Cases more than the average college major.

It's not "can make" it's "do make".

College-educated workers enjoy a substantial earnings premium. On an annual basis, bachelor's degree holders earn about $32,000 more than those whose highest degree is a high school diploma. The earnings gap between college graduates and those with less education continues to widen.

My son just dropped out of college to make T shirts. He may be successful but statistically and from a policy point of view college confers a great earning gain.

And what about future leaders? There will be few male leaders eventually. The education issues of boys is one of the most serious issues in the MRM.

than those whose highest degree is a high school diploma.

That sounds like it includes everyone like retail workers and janitors. Any data that specifically concerns how those that learn trades compare to those that have a degree?

A union plumber makes an average $52,981.

The salaries of Union Plumbers in the US range from $10,981 to $291,309 , with a median salary of $52,981 . The middle 57% of Union Plumbers makes between $52,982 and $132,275, with the top 86% making $291,309.

An engineer with a BS and straight out of college is 72k. I tried to get my son into engineering. With the upper 10% making over 175K.

https://www.mtu.edu/engineering/outreach/welcome/salary/

Interestingly folks with any college degree can now do a one year boot camp on coding and make 70K straight out of coding boot camps. But you need a bachelors degree to get the job, not to do the boot camp.

Many degrees provide minimal expertise relevant to a job. Women still go into the Art mainly, which is less likely to produce a relevant job related education. Men are more likely to choose a professional field, so men are more likely to have a valuable degree. Feminists only view more women going to university than men as 'good'. They ignore the consequences of women's choices.

A college education is also absolutely essential for representation in the ruling class

That's why our gynocentric society doesn't care about the 60/40 ratio of women to men in college. But this will fail. When given the ability to choose professions men choose building professions and leadership positions. Women choose more personally involved and caring professions in general.

[–]throwaway20210821 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To the point the article makes in the later paragraphs: there's men that seem to get some sort of pleasure out of being considered the ones called on to sacrifice themselves. The bigger problem is that they aren't satisfied with just this but having all other men around them share the same fate and working to that end to see that happen.

The ideas of "what is means to be a man" and "masculinity" can be used as very manipulative concepts to get men view double standards against them as something to be proud of.

That's why imo talk about the virtue of "masculinity" and "the good that men are capable of" shouldn't always be taken at face value nor viewed as flattering, even if they seem to on the surface commend men for something said to be unique to them and make them feel special.

Quick question before I click on the link: Has AVFM kicked Paul Elam and the other right-wing fascists out, or are they still just a stalking horse for reactionary politics?

[–]Oncefa2 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't think we should characterize conservatives as automatically part of the problem.

And most of the criticism that Paul Elam gets is the result of a publicity stunt where he took articles from Jezebel that were obviously misandrist, gender swapped them, and then put them on his website. The point was to demonstrate that there would in fact be outrage if a man spoke that way about women, but not when a woman speaks that way about men.

The irony is that his publicity stunt worked a little too well. People accuse him, either on purpose or by mistake, of believing those things. And many are completely ignorant about the origin of those articles being gender swapped feminist pieces. So if everyone hates Elam because of it, why aren't we saying anything about the original feminist authors on Jezebel?

I'm not personally a fan of Paul Elam but I think it's important that we know what the facts are, especially when they make this real world point about a very harmful double standard in society.

[–]Asatmaya -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Who said anything about conservatives?

most of the criticism that Paul Elam gets is the result of a publicity stunt where he took articles from Jezebel

Yea, that's not what I am talking about; there was also the whole embezzlement thing, but apparently no one cares about that, least of all me.

My problem was the connection to right-wing politicians and groups using the MRM to push their policies with no intention of ever doing anything on the men's rights front. The moderators of the site forums were a perfect example; did you ever have anything to do with Grumpy Old Man?

[–]True_Mushroom_4234 -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I find it very hypocritical that men's rights activists are willing to take credit for all of the good things men have done and taken none of the credit for all the bad things men have done.

Very interesting.....

[–]Greg_W_Allan 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Not the least bit surprising in the face of a very powerful ideology which is incapable of expressing a single positive sentiment towards boys and men.

What matters isn't what was done but how. Men have an ability to come together in numbers large or small, put aside their differences and work collectively towards common goals. Our species wouldn't have survived without it.
