The problem is that business is competitive. You want to work with people that will do what it takes to compete. When someone on your proposal team leaves to attend a soccer game, stigma follows. It's not that you think that that person is a bad person- in fact, they are a great mother/father. It's just that that person is NOT a person you want on your team when chasing business aggressively.

There are jobs that offer more flexibility, but they don't pay as well. Because someone who can't commit to their work 100% isn't as valuable to a company as someone who can. This sucks, and it does mean that parenthood and professional excellence are somewhat at odds, but life is about priorities, and sadly- you can't have it all.

When my baby was born my husband got two weeks paternity leave. It was great except for the fact that my baby was in the NICU for those two weeks. He couldn't get it changed even though our baby was not actually home.

It's because men are acutely aware of the equation that states:

Effort In = Money Out

They know that if they choose to work less to be with their family, not only will it impact the bottom line immediately, it'll reduce their chances of moving upwards as well.

Capitalism cannot sustain itself on "flex-time" workers.

Am I the only one reading the languaging on this?

Another "men suffer because they take on a feminine role", "flexibility is feminine".

languaging that leads to of course the conclusion, all men suffer because the patriarchy which men have created thus all male suffering and male gender roles are created by men.

And of course all positive attributes are all "feminine".

Women play no part in this ever. Because patriarchy.

Post this in the reference section I see a few points that will likely come up when arguing with feminists. Overall our work culture in America is at best broken if not outright toxic and due to gender roles and social issues it is even worse for men. It would not surprise me if the wife wants the husband around more to deal with the kids but would just as likely leave him as soon as he started making less money. But I am a cynic.

When I was applying for a job with the rail in Australia, they were talking about all the rights and benefits that the job comes with. Ofcause Maternity leave came up. Once they had finished their spiel and asked for questions, I asked if the Maternity leave and Paternity leave had the same benefits. The rep took a moment and responded honestly that they did not now, that this was the first time they had been asked. They assumed that it would be the same, but were not able to find any clarification.

The problem in a few cases is that many men do not know whether or not they are eligible for the benefits that the women are because they do not ask. You can not receive something you don't ask for or know exists.
