I was pondering/reading about objectification of women, why it's such a problem, that kind of thing. Then I came to the question of why don't women want to be objectified; seems like a silly question, but sometimes you have to ask silly questions. The consensus I got was women don't like to be objectified because they don't want to be seen as just their physical characteristics, but appreciated for who they really are.

Now here is where my idea comes in. I think women have a false assumption that were their physical characteristics not being noted, individuals would be falling over themselves to admire them as a person. Instead, in my opinion, they would be treated like men, as just masses of bio in the way. Now I'm pondering where this false assumption originates from. My first thought is that as children, both girls and boys are "patted on the head" for all their accomplishments. "You're so awesome Jimmy/Sarah, you were able to finish that whole diorama by yourself. Good for you." However, this changes somewhere around teenage years. When the girls start hitting puberty not only do you have "Girl power!" telling them they're awesome, but you have boys who are taking interest in them, albeit physically. On the other side of the street, boys start hitting the "real world" feeling of "Unless you're accomplishing something amazing like star of the football team, you're just bio".

Thoughts? Ideas? Additions? Is it better to be seen as just another pile of bio as opposed to physically appealing?
