On a cursory read,

He made public allegations of corruption against a sitting judge without any evidence
He allegedly breached the conditions of his bond/bail which is the reason why he was arrested.

I feel for the man and his grief is unimaginable but he got about this the wrong way.

And this is why you need lawyers. Im trained to spot the actual issues objectively. and not respond with emotions. Having clerked before, i know how the system works from the inside. Not saying there isnt any sexism or discrimination etc. There absolutely is. But the main thing is the favours being traded. This you will never hear about.

The issues ive pointed out are the most likely the reasons he got put in jail. I feel sorry for the man.

Obligatory not op, my thinking would be that this would never be held against a grieving mother who just lost her kid.

Rancilio contacted authorities after she saw the posts and felt threatened. Investigators from the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office looked into the offending posts and found no evidence that Vanderhagen had made any threats, according to court documents.

but the next sentence is more telling IMO

That didn’t stop officials from charging Vanderhagen with malicious use of telecommunications services in July and letting him out on bond. But he continued to criticize Rancilio on social media after his release.

Right, he did not threaten the judge, but she 'felt threatened' and some charge of 'malicious use of telecommunications' was tossed at him. If it isn't threatening then social media use should fall under freedom of speech if im not mistaken. This does reek of corruption if you ask me, a judge is accused of something and suddenly this man isn't allowed to say things like:

“Dada back to digging and you best believe I’m gonna dig up all the skeletons in this court’s closet,”

If this truly was the worst of the posts then there really should be an in dept investigation.

I'll be honest. He is fighting the system and the system almost always wins. Any investigation will never amount to anything.

My view is that they will keep charging him with more breaches until they break him down. Malicious use of telecommunication device is typical. The charge is so broad you can tack it onto anyrhing to make the file bigger or if you need to make an arrest.

The digging into the courts closet to find skeletons could be construed as somewhat menacing. Having clerked, i know he wont find shit. That stuff (if there is) will be burried very very deep. Usually there will be no records whatsoever. He wont find anything with the very limited resources he has. You need governmental agency level resources to uncover stuff.

The feeling threatened is all what is needed to trigger an investigation. Remember this is a judge we are talking about here.

He got arrested for breaching conditions relating to his bond.

This man should take some time out to grieve. I feel so sorry for him.

Oh of course, fighting the system is not something that is easy or will go smoothly, but that shouldn't be a reason not to do it.

And if he is charged with things like this another judge looking at this should have no problem looking through this bullshit. But that does mean that you have an honest judge.

How can this be seen as "menacing" at all? I mean, yea sure the court won't like others poking around in "their" business, but they should have nothing to fear if they work by the book.

Oh i agree, but there will only be a governmental agency level investigation held if and when enough doubt is being raised. This is the only thing that this person can do now, the problem is that his right of speech is taken away by a judge who doesn't like her authority challenged. Or at the very least, that is what it reeks of.

Yes, and the investigation didn't found anything and yet he was still silenced. This is exactly why i remember that this is a judge we are talking about.

Anyone can feel threatened by anything, that is the point, it is all very vague. If a judge has a transcript of all the accused social media and couldn't find any justification for feeling threatened they came up with this bogus charge.

Yes, that is their excuse, but you know as well as i do that there is more to this story when these charges are practically created in order to shut him up.

We should hold judges to higher standards, i truly hope that this man makes enough noise to warrant a proper investigation.

It's a clickbait headline. A boy did die while in his mother's care, and the boy's father was jailed after criticizing the judge. Why would either of those things shock you? You've probably constructed a story in your head that links these two events, and that story is what's really shocking you. You were manipulated into doing that by the headline writer.

According to the actual story, the mother was found not responsible for the boy's death. Sometimes people are not responsible for the deaths of children in their care; it happens. The father - presumably distraught and probably wondering if he could have saved his son if he'd had custody - started criticizing the judge online, and was eventually charged with malicious use of telecommunications services and then jailed for violating the terms of his bail.

Who knows, maybe the judge is evil, but don't just assume the father is the good guy in this story; that's just a genderswapped "believe all women."
