How many of you, in the middle of your lives, have reinvented yourselves? Do you have a story to tell?

I did it and this morning, I was talking to a friend of mine who did it, too. He was in tech, had done really well, then went through a divorce, realized his life was kind of bullshit, and moved to Florence, Italy. He spent eight years training to be an artist, and is now a very successful portrait painter. He's working on a project, and has had several men who are students and bankers, lawyers, and so on approach him to ask how he reinvented himself. I'm wondering if this is a thing.
