National Review has retracted the article and admitted it based the article on an out of context quote, and ignored the relevant facts of the case.

It's important to keep in mind that the mass media does not make money by objective reporting of facts, they make their money by getting people to click and view ads. If you're expecting ethics in journalism in 2019, you're gonna have a bad time.

This comment is giving the female student the benefit of the doubt, and is blaming wording of the Title IX Office:

Could this be an issue of terrible wording done by the the Title IX Office at the University of Missouri?

The male student is being subject to a violation because he is consistently and seems to have repetitively asked her out instead of his size. She declined all the offers when he asked her out and he possibly increase the amount of contact towards her thus scaring her. Scared because of the increased contact and knowing that he is bigger than her, made her file a report on him. The report though focused on the size, or mentioned the size, of the male student is the cause of the threat, but in reality it was the stalking like behavior he was displaying that caused the report.

The female student may have said something like “I now see him more often, and he continues to ask. It’s scaring me. And the fact that he is bigger than me, and can overpower me, makes it all more scary.” Again, giving her the benefit this could have briefly mention thing by her to the reporter. The report, or violation, could read “given the difference in size between the two students, any physical altercations can potentially cause more harm to the student,” or something in that nature. Poor wording, and probably does not need to be mentioned in the actual violation report.

However, I think the violation is coming from his repetitive contact and encounters without her that are unwanted because he continues to ask her out, not because of the size difference. I believe poor wording and a bias reporter is the cause of the issue. Unfortunately, if it is that the University will have a challenge proofing that in court, and a potential stalker will be let go.

I have not read the report (if it is online can someone post it), and I don’t know if he actually increased the amount of time he spent around her. This is all speculation, giving her the benefit of the doubt.
