Coming from a completely selfish perspective, this shit is why I'd REALLY like to see some male contraceptives. Not only because it's unfair for you guys to not have a choice, but.... they want to melt hormones into my vagina? How much freaking longer until Vasalgel is put again?

I would do this anyday. Its quite annoying that there are so few contraceptives for men. Its a choice of condom which im not a fan of unless it was a casual encounter, or a vasectomy which is a bit risky.

There are hormonal contraceptive methods for men, but quite a bit more difficult to come by. Female birth control is handed out like chewing gum by comparison.

Yes, it does tend to be harder to get supplies of experimental drugs still in small phase clinical trials.

I don't think replacement doses of testosterone would be considered an experimental drug in a small phase clinical trial. It has been in use for the better part of 80 years or so now? Some may argue that the side effects are too severe to be considered a viable contraceptive, however, I do not think the literature shows them to be more severe than that of female birth control. What you are referring to are much more exotic contraceptive methodologies.

Very cool.
And that about sums up my opinion.

Not really mens rights issue, but thought it was interesting. Would be fantastic if the same thing could be developed for men.
What are your feelings about it? Do you forsee problems?
[–]anonlymouse2 points 12 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
I definitely forsee problems. You need to be on hormonal contraceptives for a month for them to be effective. You can't just turn it off and on on a whim.

Hormonal contraceptives for men would probably take even longer to work. Simply shutting off sperm production still leaves rounds in the chamber. Even after a vasectomy you have to be careful-- the majority of "failures" recorded after sterilization come from this period.
Women need to stop just one egg a month, with a secondary effect of making any egg that does get released unable to attach to the uterine wall. Men need to stop a quarter-billion tadpoles on a mission- and only one has to slip by the gate.
From the headline I was imagining a small robotic clamp that lives in your sack. When receiving commands it replaces the traditional sever / clip method to close off the vas. It becomes reversible without follow-up surgery. You just issue the remote commands.
Cybernetic enhancement. Aww yeah.

I don't see the point of even going for hormonal contraceptives for men. Vasalgel, assuming it proves effective (which it should, it's just a matter of approval given Risug is in use elsewhere) is about as ideal as it gets.

Not an mens rights issue, should go to conspiracy thread. Human chiping and makeing humans dosile if necessary
