My biggest frustration is he continually fails to acknowledge the well documented discrimination against males in education that’s the root of the problem. This discrimination is documented in numerous studies and as you said Hoff-Sommer’s excellent book.

Since he fails to acknowledge the discrimination, his solutions also fall short in my opinion. We shouldn’t seek to partially balance the discrimination by holding boys back for example, but rather we should stop the discrimination against males that’s the root cause of the problem.

You seem to be on the right track.

Id also add he thinks boys should be held back 2 years in school behind women which is blatantly wrong. He claims it’s bc our brains develop slower but idk if there’s truth to that. The entire education system was changed to favors women, that’s why boys are falling behind .

Also I’d say let’s not focus on social issues too much but on systemic issues as the lack of laws as well as existing ones discriminate men. For example, 50/50 parenting should be the default in every divorce, circumcision should be illegal, paternity tests should be legal (they aren’t in France and Germany) and everyone should have to take it, forced fatherhood or semen theft should be illegal, etc.

Reeves is there so no one "too radical" take this issue

Teachers give better grades to women, a lot of studies say so. He decides to ignore that fact and no one has the guts to face him with that.

Do you think Bill Maher is going to put him in a difficult situation by asking him about it? Of course fucking no, they won't, everywhere he goes to he got shelted.

He always try to trick us to think that male discrimination on school is just a fluke, something that happened suddenly and nobody expected (So nobody noticed something that has been happening in the last 40 years) even this phrenologist idiot has talked about women's being more developed.

The idea that a society that thought women are inferior to men, suddenly gave them their rights just because, is fucking dumb, it's so dumb a saying that en 20 years in UK the Armenian will be the first language of population, social changes occurred through historical events and over hundred of years, not by just "realizing discrimination against women is bad". Societies don't work that way. Society always wanted the best for women, but social contexts were totally different compared with nowadays. Work in the 21st century is completely different from what's today. As soon as work became what's nowadays and stopped being almost labor slavery women got on labor marketplace and society led them do so. If societies were unwilling to women to have right they just wouldn't have them.

Meanwhile men still being forced to do mandatory military service in places like South Korea, México, Cuba, Austria, Finland etc etc. THAT'S what happens when you are actually discriminated against. You are discriminated against and... that's all. There is no "suddenly realizing that's unfair".*

*In those countries where there is no mandatory military service. I dare to say that's so because they don't like military service as a policy, not because they stand against discrimination toward men

Big fan of his work. As an educator, I think he's largely right on 1&2 (though he'd dispute the way you characterize #2). I think there's been a shift in the educational and work worlds that increasingly favors traits more present in girls for both social and biological reasons (not categorical differences, but real distributional differences). Sit still, pay attention, read carefully, work interpersonally, no need to lift heavy stuff, etc.

I see it in the classroom every day. There are some great male students, but overall there's a clear gender divide in who is doing the work in and out of class. I find it's like pulling teeth to get boys to participate in anything beyond sports. The girls jump at every opportunity. It's really striking if you work in the field. This year my department chose to give it's top award to a young man over several young women in part because it's been years since we've had a good male candidate.

I think pointing at discrimination against boys in school and scholarships for girls focuses on minor factors when the shifts are caused by much bigger social transformations.

What I'm unsure about is his redshirt solution. I love that he thinks in terms of big policies (love the scholarships idea) but I'm up in the air over redshirting.
