Should we keep having higher standards for male stoicism and strength?

Teach them what actually stoicism and mental strength is all about first, is that happening anywhere ?

Why not teach the same to women too ? Also, why not teach women not to take advantage of the system in this century ?

Raise them the way nature intended to. Manly women and womanly men are only going to create future health and mental problems for you.

Justice should be served equally and humanely. Should also remember that you are parent, not in gender decisions court. Teach them live in current world, not in a feminist utopia.

No, we should abolish gender roles .. it should be okay for men to show weakness and be ashamed of that.

Feminists want to liberate women from gender roles but shame men who talk about their feelings using terms like "male tears"

Personally I think the biggest issue has to do with this: girls are raised to be cautious of men, boys are raised to be trusting of women. It’s boys that are raised with a very unhealthy view that women are kinder, gentler, weaker and more nurturing/loving than men. This is called gynocentrism, where boys are raised to provide/protect women in general (not just loved ones), but women are raised to expect male service as a reflection of manhood. If you raise your children, boy or girl, to be an adult. To expect that trust should be earned not given, that no gender should be trusted because they are that gender, or feared because of that gender. If you raise them with basic life skills. Raise both to know how to cook, clean, budget, critical thinking, how to pause on emotions and reflect (not just have a temper tantrum - real stoicism), how to earn something and not manipulate to get it, how to study, and and and so important... and how to protect and defend themselves, then they will both be successful.

What they like as individuals will play out as they learn it. If she wants to play with trucks and he wants to play with the Easy Bake Oven... who cares?

Gender roles are not a social construct. They are basically the same, everywhere on earth. There are large, hardwired differences in personality between men and women. These differences are larger than race and class personality differences.

EDIT Evolution does not work only from the neck down. Even animals have gender roles. Please stop this leftist stupidity.

Should I as a parent insist that my male child told "big boys don't cry" more than my female child? Is raising boys to be more masculine than girls, and girls to be more féminine than boys, a good thing?

My niece (4) fell over riding her bike today, she got up and said "I am OK, I am OK", and brushed her knees. She learned this from her older brother and us. When they would get hurt, we would wipe their tears and say repeatedly "they are OK" (if they are). It is part of life that they are bound to get a little bruised and grazed. Just wipe their tears and comfort them if needed, and try to navigate their emotions in a healthy fashion. Rampant emotions are dangerous to the well being of a child.

Be affectionate towards both your boy and girl. Hugs and kisses and all that. Play with them the way fathers play. I know that both my brother and I play with the kids differently than the women folk. We are rougher, and more physical, to the point where sometimes the women try to step in. Boys need to bond in their own special way, and girls need to bond in theirs.

Abolishing gender roles is harmful. Both adult males and females still expect it, even if one likes to deny it. Most women still find confident, stoic men attractive.

Build self-worth, confidence and moral compass in them both. And let them express their emotions in a healthy fashion. As to stoicism, that would come naturally to boys when they hit puberty.

Boys will have it harder as they become adults, and they need to be tougher. Society, government and culture tend to to neglect our needs, so men better be ready to handle it. We have no choice.

Stoicism and strength, either of character or of physical body, do not need to be referred to as "male". Stoicism and physical strength are things to achieve and aspire to for everyone, regardless of gender. Women should learn emotional control just as men should. Physical fitness also is good for everyone.

No, I don't think you should insist your male child learns "big boys don't cry" more than your female child. Adults should be in control of their emotions. Emotional outbursts are generally not a good thing. There is a time and place for the expression of extreme emotions, and generally in the middle of a Starbucks is not it. Men generally learn that there are some places where it is inappropriate to have an adult tantrum, and I think that is a lesson that is beneficial for everyone to learn.

I feel that both genders should be held to similar standards. Men can cry and express extreme emotions, just as women can. Women can learn to better control their extreme emotional outbursts at inappropriate times, just as men can.

I don't think these are necessarily new or reformed ideas on gender roles. Men have always been able to express their emotions with people they trust. They have generally been taught or learned to do so in a more controlled way though, so as not to allow themselves to be ruled by their emotions. Men have also generally learned that there is a proper time and place for extreme displays of emotion, and that time and place rarely is in public. Women can benefit from these same lessons. It is not good for anyone to have adult tantrums in random public places.
