Notice in the story that the mother made two false accusations against the father to help her win primary custody and faced no consequences at all for doing so. Disappointing but expected.

[–]pantsu_kamen 30 points31 points32 points 4 years ago (34 children) | Copy Link

Plus as others mentioned he still has to pay child support even though he's already fully supporting their child half of the time. If the mom's such a deadbeat, then the appropriate solution is to only give her the portion of time that she can actually afford to care for their child, otherwise this type of arrangement is only putting even more of a burden on the father than there was before.

[–]kanniget -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (32 children) | Copy Link

There is a difference between what's good for the child financially and what's good for the child emotionally.

Unless the child is being abused its best to have balanced care arrangements. Care should not be linked to financial ability.

I have 4 kids to 2 different mothers and I am happy to pay for their support. But our system is different here so a lot fairer and not up to a judge.

[–]pantsu_kamen 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (30 children) | Copy Link

I respect your opinion, but despite what anyone claims, the system over here was never really meant to benefit children. What it was set up for was to punish financially successful men who abandoned a housewife and kids to run off with their young secretary, yet it still continues to operate on the same principles despite dramatic changes to society which have made that a relatively rare scenario.

If a man can't afford to support his kids, the court will tell him to get a better paying job, yet even though that's at least as easy or arguably even easier for a woman to do nowadays, nobody holds them to the same expectations. Having the responsibilities fall entirely one parent and the rights and benefits on the other leads to issues such as bitterness, estrangement, paternal suicide, maternal neglect, and so on, which are certainly not going to be good for the child. Holding both parents to equal standards would make their own minds and lives healthier in addition to reducing conflict, so that they can actually focus on their child's well-being.

[–]kanniget -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years ago (29 children) | Copy Link

Maybe that's the case in Your country, not in mine. The Court system here has nothing to do with determination of child support.

[–]pantsu_kamen 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

Understood, but with this story coming out of the U.S. it makes a big difference. Remember he'll still be on the hook for the same amount of money even if he gets crippled and can't work, or if something happens in the mother's life that leaves him taking care of their child all the time.

[–]kanniget -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

I get that, the original comment Implies child support is evil.(paraphrasing)

It's not that child support is evil but the system that decides how much and who pays is broken and taken advantage of.

Push for legislation changes that aim to simplify the process and get it sorted and removed from the courts or force the courts to apply specific criteria to it.

[–]pantsu_kamen 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago* (6 children) | Copy Link

I get that, the original comment Implies child support is evil.(paraphrasing)

Well that wasn't my intention, it's just that in cases like this, the father is already paying more than half the child's expenses to begin with since he's almost certainly the one paying for things like insurance and probably most clothing all by himself, on top of the food and utilities while they're there fifty percent of the time, but then he's also forced to cover much of the mother's costs as well. Unless she's severely disabled, there's just no excuse for that kind of imbalance in this day and age, so the mother is just being a lazy bum. At least under the old system it made sense because one parent had full time custody, so naturally the other owed their fair share of the bills even though there were often problems with how it was applied.

[–]kanniget -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Again, you come across like child support is evil. Do you think it's ok for a child to live half the time in poverty and half in luxury? Either the parent with the most earning potential should help the one with the lesser potential or only the wealthy/richer parents should get custody.

The only outcome that doesn't impact the child is the one that gets to establish consistent living standards between homes.

It appears your issue stems from the idea he has to pay regardless of custody arrangements and that is unfair. But change your system to be about the welfare of the child. Remember, in these situations they are the only innocent party and the most impacted. They usually have to live with parents that hate each other and blame each other for everything that is wrong.

[–]pantsu_kamen 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Do you think it's ok for a child to live half the time in poverty and half in luxury?

Of course not, which is why the court should compel the mother to step up the same way they would if the father was being a deadbeat. Why should responsibility only go one way? How does having a mother who refuses to carry her own weight benefit a child?

If we were talking about a billionaire who married a truck stop waitress I could understand where you're coming from, but these are both working class people and it's just that only one is making any effort. Notice how she's described as "a 22 year old full time mom" except she only has the child fifty percent of the time. What is she doing with the rest of that time, why doesn't she get a job?

Meanwhile, he started out in a menial job but applied himself and got better ones for the sake of his child. What's in the best interest of the child is being raised by parents who are responsible and good role models, not one parent who is and another who parties all night and sleeps all day while the grandparents babysit.

[–]kanniget3 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

There could be a huge range of reasons she is earning less than him that are not due to being a deadbeat. I know of a specific case where she has a new partner who is an extremely wealthy individual and she still collects child support from the father because she no longer works. Even our system isn't perfect but its a lot fairer for the overwhelming majority of people.

I agree both parents should be contributing to the financial costs of raising the children to the best of their ability.

I agree a system that allows a mother to work and still receive child support even though she earns more than the father is crazy.

I agree that the child support should change with circumstances.

[–]pantsu_kamen4 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

There could be a huge range of reasons she is earning less than him that are not due to being a deadbeat.

Well if they were from different socioeconomic classes to begin with or he won the lottery or something then yes that's fine, but the guy started out in the typical minimum wage retail jobs and worked his way up to a minor supervisory position, which is just as achievable for her. If there were unequal living conditions between homes those would be entirely her fault for choosing to loaf around, which would not be tolerated from the father.

[–]kanniget2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Sure it is in this case, but I don't know anyone involved in this case to be able to make that kind of determination.

I Wasn't specifically talking about this case. As I said your comment came off like child support is evil and I was just clarifying that child support isn't the issue, how the amounts are decided is.

[–]pantsu_kamen3 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I've only been commenting on the specific situation described in this particular article though. We probably don't actually disagree on anything important, it's just that we're coming at the issue from different perspectives or with different experiences.

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (19 children) | Copy Link

The most important thing you do as a parent is make financial decisions like what clothes to wear if there's even going to be a daycare after care whether they go to this after-school program or what have you...

Child support takes those decisions away from one parent and gives it to the other parent most likely the mother who goes on to accuse the parent providing support of being cheap ironically and confusing it for her own contribution.

Child support represents a fundamental parental alienation it is the most fundamental alienation one can imagine.

[–]kanniget 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Sorry, that's rubbish. Those issues have nothing to do with child support and all to do with the ego and arrogance of individual parents.

Child support is about providing adequate financial support to a child. If the receiving parent is an arsehole, they will still be ama arsehole if no child support was involved.

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

If there is a significant difference of the ability to care the child should be with the parent that is more financially capable. And the parent that is not doing so well should focus on improving their situation not extorting money from another adult.

And surrendering your financial decisions in the form of support is Parental alienation, since the most important decisions are Financial.

[–]kanniget0 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The more financially capable may also be the worst person emotionally for the child.

If you see child support as extortion then don't get married and don't have kids because if the only thought that you can have about providing for your child is extortion then you will make a shitty partner and a shitty parent.

There are reason to hate child support as a concept and women who use it as financial aid for themselves. But they are not the majority.

I have 2 exes, 1 who is a narcissistic nightmare and wanted me to fund her lifestyle. The other one was financially capable of raising the kids on her own. I still contributed when she needed money, for the kids.

The narcissistic ex was firmly put in her place when she tried to get me to pay for maintaining the lifestyle she had become accustomed to. Our system here doesn't allow for that unless there are mitigating circumstances and it's now extremely rare for a judge to even hear a case on it. I now pay the mandatory amount based on care arrangements and I come levels. Sure, she can game it by not working but for every dollar she loses by not working she only gets 20c from me. So really a dumb move on her part.

Your system is archaic and prone to being milked by unscrupulous people. Get your system changed to focus on what's best for the child.

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Are you kidding the most Financially responsible person is more than likely the most emotionally stable.

The very idea that there are adults feel as though other adults are responsible for them already negates their utility as a parent... that we still allow children to be primarily raised by these people is likely one of the core issues with children today.

[–]kanniget0 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

So, you think it's better to have a child raised by a narcissistic and abusive parent because they are the one who make the most money.

Nah. That's just nuts and will lead to children who are also narcissistic abusers or suicidal.

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No I'm saying child support has nothing to do with whether a parent is narcissistic or not you want to complete that simply because you have no argument against what I'm saying.

I'm simply calling out BS

[–]kanniget0 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No, your spreading bullshit. Your saying that child support is wrong because it takes financial control away from the patent who is paying the support and that the only criteria for a good parent is one who earns the most money. That's just bullshit on so many levels.

Your systems is fucked up but instead of fixing it you want to year it all to the ground and create a system that will be just as bad because you have financial control issues.

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That coming from the idiot that says that child support is right because someone can be an asshole.... you are a complete idiot.

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Cunts love to treat little kids like bags of money, because they failed to ever mature like an adult!!!

[–]kanniget1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah... I never said that and you know it. The fact you have to resort to that kind of response is pretty telling...

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If you want to avoid children being raised by narcissistic abusers then you want to change the whole child support system!!!!

Maybe you just don't have a clue how these mothers and lawyers and court systems have been treating our children like little bags of money.... maybe you're just a mangina who in some ways hates men and masculinity

[–]kanniget1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah, you go ahead and prove your just angry and don't have a real argument by resorting to childish insults.

Your obviously angry responding as you have not understood that I have said numerous times, I don't live in your fucked up country and that it works differently where I do live. I have also said many times change your system.

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

What is best for the child is that they have a stable loving environment and anybody who is responsible enough to provide a stable environment is more than likely capable of providing that same in all areas of care.

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Child support has nothing to do with supporting the child!

It's a system that allows mothers to treat their children as little bags of money in court!

These fathers who are the vast majority exploited are more than likely willing and capable of making financial decisions but to the extent that they are exploited they lose those decisions to someone who has no responsibility themselves...

[–]kanniget1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That's your opinion and probably based on your own experience or at least the ideas given to you from reading about too many cases where the mother is just leaching off the father.

Yeah it happens but that's a failing of your system to ensure child support is appropriate and what's bets for the child. You will always have edge cases but that doesn't mean all cases are like that.

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yeah it's based on lazy cunts like you

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Your assumption is that deadbeat dads are a problem and that is not true either.

Men have proven themselves the more caring and empathetic because we have allowed ourselves to be used and exploited to the extent that we have you will not see many mothers standing in line are willing "Step Up" like men have!

So you know where you can go with this gaslighting

[–]kanniget1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Where did I say that? Your making a whole raft of assumptions about what I think. What's even crazier is you either have a comprehension problem or are just not bothering to read because you can't seem to grasp that I am saying along those lines at all.

Show me anywhere where I said deadbeat dad's was the problem? Your system punishes men for having children with women who only care about the money. I get it, fix your fucking system so that's not the problem, but don't be stupid and think that just because a few women are deadbeat mums that the best person to raise a child is the father.

The best parental situation is both parents in a loving relationship raising the child. Next best is the care shared 50/50 Then it's majority time with the most emotionally stable. Then it's majority time with the most financially stable.

Your advocating for a system based on who earns the most, so you will end up with a kids who gets ripped out of one home and put into another because that parent suddenly earns more... Only with the potential for it to reverse 6 months later when the other one gets a pay rise or the current one gets fired.... That's insane and not in the interests of the child.

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm not reading your BS. gaslighter

its best to have balanced care arrangements.

Source?

Afaik the childs life outside of the divorce being affected the least is what is actually best for them emotionally (same house, same primary carer, etc)

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't suspect that's going to be the end of it either because the father is a piece of s*** because we all know he's not going to do everything the mother expects him to do and he'll never be the absolute Angel his mother is because we all know mothers are as perfect a human being as we'll ever see

[–]ABBucsfan 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Mine tried doing so as well.. everyone knew it was bs, med/arbitrator included, but had to do their due diligence. Sort approaxh was get kid to talk to psych and see if we have anything to work on. Didn't find anything other than kid has seen parents fighting and kid knows too much about divorce (clearly indicates stuff mom was saying but refuses to name names). And surprise, psych wants whole family to get counselling. It's dragged it out so long.. I moved out before summer and still only 6 sleep overs and two dinners a month. It's rediculous. And as you said NO CONSEQUENCES! The drama has made it hard to work, even to point of using up last of my vacation some afternoons from the stress and it has cost me several thousand already in lawyer fees dragging it out and still not over. And why? There is no reason I should have significantly less parenting time. That's my kid too. I've never tried to give her less than half

The Australian system uses tax returns and adjusts based on incomes for each year. If you encounter hardship mid year you can appeal for a recalculation but it's not easy. If you happen to over pay this year your credited with the overpayment.

And gender doesn't come into it. My ex wife had to pay me for a while there. There are still a few flaws in the system. Nothing stopping you or her taking a lower paying job to avoid child support obligations and it's common for women to want shared care arrangements changed not long after being told they have to pay up.....

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Because having to pay child support goes against their natural feminine hypergamy.

[–]Halafax 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Nothing stopping you or her taking a lower paying job to avoid child support obligations

"Imputed income". The court decides how much the person "should be making" and determines support based on that made up number. Guys that were killing themselves to make wages for their families before the divorce have to keep working at that level or they drown in court ordered support debt.

Please read my comment.

In your country that's how it works. My comment was on how it works in my country...

I agree, Your child support methodology is broken you need to fix it and I gave the example of how my country does it for inspiration.

This is excellent news. A day will come when sole custody will be seen as unusual and indicative of an inability to manage getting along with your ex spouse.

[–]63daddy 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Getting more states to adopt an equal presumption of joint custody is probably the biggest success of the men’s movement.

[–]OGKnightBro94 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

as a kentucky hmmmmmmmm

[–]MGTOW_and_Bitcoin 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The states are trying to make having a family and having children a bit more appealing to men as they are walking away.....

Having a child in the western nation is not in your best interest they will not let you be a father they do not give two shits about Father's.

There is and never was a good reason to have a marriage as a man... society's today need to relearn a very important lesson about the importance of men.

[–]PlayaLarga 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How the hell did they try to make it seem like they were both being reasonable in the things they did??? ONLY the guy was reasonable!! The lady literally made false allegations and she knew damn well what she was doing. Also, who gives a fuck what her family thinks. It’s none of their business. I’d be more worried about the safety of the child in that devil mother of hers hands. Absolutely disgusting. This is why I will never get with a single mom and most likely won’t get with anyone and have kids at all. Absofuckinglutely disgusting.
