Study finds more men are marrying "up" now. While more women are being forced to marry "down". Kind of like a crappy consolation prize to men for being held back by feminism I guess.

This just in, science says women actually have the same physical strength as men. In other news, science still says men are inherently bad. Thank you, Motherboard, for redefining "science".

Is it still legal to mutilate the genitals of little boys in Alberta? Will kittens and puppies soon have more human rights in Alberta than little boys?

Cue the slew of new articles about how "men are the real/new/worst gold-diggers" and the "men are intimidated by successful women" articles will abate in volume slightly but will still continue to hang-on nonetheless because those are too good to stop.

Study finds not enough high earning men for high earning women to marry up. It does not find that men are, in fact, marrying up.

See? Men are failing women yet again.

So, no consolation prize after all.

[–]bufedad 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nope

[–]PowerToAnnihilate 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

wouldn't marrying a woman who makes more than you and is a "strong successful woman" while "breaking gender roles" make you some kind of feminist icon?

what am I saying lol, of course not.

[–]fengpi 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course not.

Similarly, I see verrry few American, British, Australian or Canadian feminists seeking to hook-up with Scandinavian men. Which is odd, considering that they're supposedly way more enlightened.

[–]Mr_MRAnarchist 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Read between the lines on here. It's only talking about highly educated... so some guy making bank being a brick layer wouldn't be considered marrying up.

If you work at a blue collar job doing hard work making good money, and you marry an educated women, you are marrying up....

They don't even bother to account for the women with the fucking lesbian dance theory degrees that won't get them fuck all for a good paying job outside of HR... and still the guys will make more then they do.

[–]Ultramegasaurus 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They marry down because they have to, simple. They don't like it one bit, but decades of educational, academic and corporate favoritism bears fruit at some point: There simply are not enough higher earning men for the women out there, so instead of staying spinsters a lot of them marry down and lead unhappy marriages.

Women are more likely to divorce when they're the breadwinner

How are men "held back" by feminism?

[–]fengpi 10 points11 points12 points 8 years ago* (7 children) | Copy Link

Well, there are variants of feminist advocacy which seek to penalize men in the employment and education sectors if the hiring and program-composition statistics fail to match feminist-idealized targets. One example is the way in which Title IX is applied to college athletics in the US, which effectively caps male participation at the level of female interest and, where needed, scales-back or cancels men's athletics programs if "not enough" women sign-up.

Then, of course, there are the sectors of feminism which seek to remove men's right to a fair trial and presumption of innocence by placing a presumption of guilt upon those accused of crimes against women.

Then, there are the feminists who have advocated for public services and business practices that exclude men or denies them equal treatment (i.e.: publicly-funded domestic violence shelters, sex-based discounts, women-only gym hours, women-only train cars, etc.)

I could sit here for an hour and come-up with more examples. You wish for me to continue?

I really wouldn't mind learning more about this, and am really lazy, so if you want to go on, I'll read it (as I doubt I'll do my own research on the subject). You can post it here, or send it to my inbox if you will

I've just recently read a few feminist articles that had me shaking my head for a while, but by the end I felt like I had learned something, and that there is still a ways to go towards making things equal. I'm no feminist by any means, and am more than opened to any learnings on the subject

[–]fengpi 6 points7 points8 points 8 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

I see. Well, it really helps to be a critical thinker when reading feminist stuff because nailing them down is notoriously difficult due to the vast variety of linguistic games, goal-post moving and other evasions that they like to play. Trying to debate with a feminist really is like dealing with a squid that keeps darting-away behind a series of ink clouds, not to mention that when you back them into a corner they often give no response, change the subject or declare "everyone is to blame for that!" or piously grandstand or just yell insults at you. Their ideology is holy, infallible and pristine. It is a secular religion they have, a kind of academic cult and their thinking is like that of cultists who continually rationalize the failure of the world to end on the predicted day. (See: Doublethink. )

When convenient, they will run to the dictionary for their definitions and, when convenient, they will discard the dictionary out the window. When decontextualized data helps them, they use it and when contextualied data helps them, they use that instead. Like a dishonest lawyer who wriggles around, they will pound the law when the facts are against them, pound the facts when the law is against them, and pound the table when both are against them.

There is a great deal of things that they do not say and there are a great deal of things that they say which mean something different. They are basically speaking their own language part of the time and their words do not necessarily mean the things that you and I understand them to mean. (See: Newspeak ). And what they say to the public often differs depending upon the audience, and those statements may also differ from what they say to each other when they think no one else is listening in.

For instance, everything that I have said in my initial post to you will be stridently denied. For instance, they believe that Title IX is vital for antidiscrimination efforts and any problem with its implementation means you want to discriminate. When you talk about the specific implementation that I outlined above, they will change the subject or lay the blame elsewhere. Their ideology is never to blame for anything, so you really have to look elsewhere for your information and put-on your Critical Thinking Helmet. But a self-described "lazy" person might find the helmet to be a poor fit, haha...

It's just a subject I care very little about to be honest. It's easy enough to not argue, and I usually see the ardent ones coming a mile away. I then put my hat of, "whatever you say, dear." And run my fat ass out the way, lol

To me, it's already a hell of a lot better than it once was. I do hope for equal rights for everybody (unless it infringes on other's rights). I just have seen a world where women are treated fairly, and have some advantage, just as disadvantages; but nobody can have it all.

There is this man who lived to be 120 years old, and when a reporter questioned him, the question was, "What is your secret to such a long, healthy life"? "I never argue", "Well, it cannot be as simple as that!", "You know, you must be right" :-)

Who exactly are you pretending to be?

[–]Thingthangthong 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A guy who's curious, but doesn't give a flying fuck to "get in line" with any of this bullshit. You got people fighting for both sides, and both sides go way too far, and end up not making a lick of sense.

I'll read shit if it seems interesting though, but don't expect me to be militant over any of this "poor us" crap.

Domestic Violence shelters:

Article on the only DV shelter in Canada that closed

Article denying any accountability feminists have over the closure

Duluth model painting men as defacto abusers and women as defacto victims

The salon article claiming the inequal rape statistics is based on being forcibly penetrated. If you account being made to penetrate as rape, the numbers are more equal. source The salon article also didn't include that domestic violence is roughly equal between the sexes. source. So feminists created a duluth model labeling all men as perpetrators (false) and all women as victims (also false) and did what they could to close the only men's DV shelter in Canada.

Feminists lobby against default shared parenting. 1, 2, 3.

Domestic violence and access to their children are huge issues for men out there, and feminists have time and again fought against help for men when it comes to these issues. They have even made problems worse for men (see Duluth model).

[–]Dnile1000BC 7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You know, feminism informs, influences and directs education, criminal and employment law, policies and practice to disadvantage men. No biggie.

Hello you guys, I really need some help from someone who knows their Jordan Peterson videos.

My question: In which youtube video does JP talk about women marrying sideways and up, and men marrying sideways and down, dominance hierachies.

If you can help me find this video, it would be greatly appreciated.
