There is no difference between pickpockets and alimony taking wives. Both are doing same job of snatching hard earned money of someone which is extortion, stealing, robbing, looting etc.
It's a bit of a tough thing to get rid of, politically. Men have a strong social incentive to appear unthreatened by things like alimony. And whether you're single or married, it's just a bad look to be complaining about divorce law.
I think most women would honestly say they're against alimony if asked, especially younger women, but it's obviously not something that they have an incentive to vocally oppose either.
There are also real cases of asshole guys who promise and provide their girl everything their whole lives until yanking it away for someone younger. Yes, ideally no one would allow themselves to rely on another person like that, but the reality is that plenty of people are still very traditional about gender roles, and there end up being women in their 40's and 50's who just have no chance of surviving on their own with any decency, and they have very sympathetic stories.
That's not a strong argument in favor of keeping alimony, since if you're not in favor of traditional gender roles and you're not in favor of people relying on someone else like that, then the law shouldn't encourage that. But it's important to understand that it's not all gold diggers.

Alimony is a legal consequence of entering into a legal agreement: marriage.
Victims of theft, by definition, never entered into any agreement about the fate of their lost property.
