I offer up my former tenants as a case study:

Young couple, unmarried, 26yo male, 24 yo female

He made about $125k a year working in the oilfield (awayfrom home for weeks and on a very difficult schedule), he had an electrical engineering degree, no debt.

She got a social work degree, made about $40k a year (seriously) as a social worker and had $104k in student loan debt.

Last I talked to them she had quit her job and was going back to school for a degree in botany. I said "I'm confused, how is your botany degree going to tie in with your social work stuff?" Her: "It won't."

So there you have it. In 4 years, when she finally refinished school, she will be a 29 year old botanist complaining that she has $200k in debt, and two degrees and the only reason her boyfriend/husband (who she has been leeching from for 8 years) makes more than her is "because of the patriarchy"....definitely not because he got a useful degree in a difficult business with a terrible schedule and now has 10 years of experience.

This ladies and gentlemen is the realities of life: your decisions and choices have consequences. If you choose to get useless degrees, work jobs with fun schedules, and change career paths repeatedly, you also choose to make less money. There is a difference in pay between men and women, and it is entirely related to common sense.

unmarried

Please tell me he plans to leave her

Doubt it. Last I heard from them they were looking to buy a house together. (I sold the property they were living in so I don't know their current status.)

2/3 of college debt is from gender who makes up 2/3 of college?

Math checks out.

Yup...this takes the legs right out from their entire argument, absolutely ignorant article.

This is basically a rebranding of the wage gap; Because most people know that the wage gap is nonsense, they can't use it anymore.

> Researchers at the Georgetown Center on Education and the Workforce have found that in order for women to earn equal sums as men, they must earn an additional degree.

Keyword: earn. Maybe MNSBC should know that even a Phd who works 5mn per week will earn less than a high school graduate who works 60hrs per week.

I suspect that this article is planted by the Dems to tear apart any attempt for debt forgiveness. Just like BLM was there to make sure no police reform would happened, these articles are here to make sure a non partisan, simple issue becomes very divisive.

YouTuber Better Bachelor did a video about a year go where it went through all the different scholarships for men versus women. It's like women have something close to 250 different scholarships available to them, whereas men only have something like 60.

Pretty stark difference when educational institutions aren't willing to give low-income men a chance at getting a post secondary education to better themselves.

[–]Tigalone 5 points6 points7 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Why do they keep mentioning the wage-gap? Hasn't it been proven that men (on avarage) earn more than women because they choose the difficult jobs with high salaries?

[–]lestratege3 points 5 years ago [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

Because to them, a master's in civil engineering is "the same level of education" as a master's in gender studies and THUS they should earn equally...

[–]JzxGamer 0 points1 point2 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Exactly. Underachieving, intellectually deficient feminists take “Women’s Studies”, which is really just a course on how to see victimhood everywhere despite the fact that the loudest voices are mostly White women in western countries, where women are freer and most privileged than in all of human history…and they think that garbage is on the same level as a STEM degree. LMAO! 😂🤣

Women can also get an associate's degree that is trade-oriented and make decent money, they don't have to go get a bachelor's degree, and especially not one in the liberal arts if they hope to get a good paying job. This is an area where unless you apply some actual thought the statistics are very misleading. Women have most the debt because they make up most of the graduates - why don't they average by gender since that'd be more honest? Because, naturally, that would make the situation not look nearly as bad.
