Cameo Patch, 29: Substitute teacher at Tooele High School in Tooele, Utah, arrested for allegedly performing oral sex on a 17-year-old male student. The sexual activity was allegedly consensual, and reportedly took place off school grounds after the pair had exchanged phone numbers in a restaurant. In November 2006, Patch was sentenced to no jail time, despite comments from the judge that a man would have likely gone to prison.

It is called the pussy pass, women recieve less sentences and less time in pison/jail for every crime committed than a man does.

You have to compare like with like, or in this instance state with state. There are a few women on the site listen who were tried in Alabama, as was the man. Even with worse crimes they received substancially shorter sentences.

15 years? You get less than that for killing a man. Are we supposed to accept that having a consensual relationship with a teenager is a worse crime than depriving a man of his life?

I would look into the reasons behind statutory rape laws. When you look at criminal codes, you need to ask, "what behavior is this law trying to deter?"

While the text of many (most? all?) statutory rape laws are now gender neutral, the true purpose of the statute is not one of gender neutrality.

I believe the behavior the laws seek to deter is that which could cause the pregnancy in a young woman who cannot support a child (the burden thus falling upon the state). A draconian alternative along the same lines would be that the laws seek to prevent young girls from being "tricked" out of their virginity and thus their "desirability" as spouses.
