I think they were just reporting what the cops said. It wasn't in quotes but that is what it looks like to me.

We can hope though.

The local CBS News in Baltimore has been using the terms "sex" "sexual contact with a minor" and then 3rd degree rape when going over charges all day and actually treating her like a man accused of it other than differing terms. I was going to post their story on it (seems more detailed than this) but I am going to wait until the verdict comes in.

Recognition that statutory rape remains statutory rape regardless of the gender of the victim or if they 'wanted it' would be a huge step.

I think we're a ways away from that, but having HuffPo report it in this way is a big improvement over the 'hot teacher sex scandal' lists you often see.

I find it disturbing that whenever a boy or man engages in sexual intercourse, it is automatically and immediately assumed that he wanted to, essentially regardless of his age, mental state, or ability to consent and, more disturbingly, regardless of whether he, in fact, actually wanted to.

To be clear, in this story an adult forcibly performed a sex act on a minor after intentionally intoxicating that minor. That's rape (among other crimes). Even if the victim did want it, it's still illegal.
