The comment section in that article just made me shake my head....very first comment....ignores every single piece of information written. Almost like she didnt even read it. Do people actually do that? (comment without reading what they are commenting on). Seems like a good way to not be taken seriously.

I think that is completely ridiculous. Women should get as much money starting out as a man does regardless whether or not she does or does not have children, or any other factor. The thing that should count is that she can do the exact same job as well as a man and that is what they should get paid based upon.
Idiot.
If you read what I wrote properly you will realise that women do get paid the same as men providing they work in the same job, have the same level of qualifications and work experience, and are prepared to work the same number of hours as men.

Besides her there were so many posts about hourly wages when the writer clearly made his point based off of total wages. They were clinging desperately to the $0.76 on the $1 myth.

I think another reason is that a lot of women don't ask for more at the outset of a job - which is where you will often get the largest raise, and this will affect a portion of your income forever.

The only reason that the "Wage Gap" myth still exists is because there's a huge section of society out there screaming about it who are simply too dumb to understand why there are differences, despite them being regularly spelled out for them.
Anyone with an even average level of intelligence understands why there are differences.
I find that most women get paid less than men because it’s more than just a society; it’s a male dominated society. I think it's legitimate to argue with the points they present but to say they would ban it because they can't handle the truth when they have threads in the sidebar specifically devoted to discussing it is kind of ridiculous and the sort of ad hominem attack that should be avoided.

Women work fewer hours. Get paid less for not working as much.
This is proof of discrimination as women should get paid the same, even if they work less.
Facepalm.
Controlling for those factors means not taking them into account. Point is, that's erasing a lot of the picture. You can't just say "women make less money because they work jobs that pay less and they work fewer hours and therefore it's not related to sexism"
How dare you include the two main factors in total pay (job and hours worked) in your assessment of total pay?
We should just feel what the answer is.

I think you misunderstand their point. They don't argue that women should get paid as much as men for working less hours, but that women are being paid less for less hours, which is legitimate, but the fact that they are working less hours in the first place is a result of gender-based discrimination. There's something to be said for that, but I think that this is less due to women wanting more hours and not getting them and more due to things such as women not wanting to works nights, overtime, etc. or having to take time off to take care of their kids. There are SO many factors involved in pay, and men and women are SO different psychologically that it's a stretch to see a 20% difference in median pay earned by full-time workers by gender and chalk it up to gender-based discrimination without any other evidence.

How can it be called discrimination when it is the result of personal choices?
If for instance all left-handed people decided they wanted minimally difficult work with no responsibilities and were ok with low pay they as a group would have lower average pay than right-handed people. But as long as they aren't being forced or coerced in to these positions it is not discrimination, merely the accumulation of many personal decisions that involve trade-offs.

Having kids is a choice. And given the population of H. sapiens at the moment a somewhat selfish one. Either way it is entirely up to the woman to decide when a child is produced in her womb (which I'm not disagreeing with, but it illustrates my point that it is 100% her decision).
A child might be considered a hobby. In that it is a nonessential task that consumes your time and resources that you voluntarily engage in for other than financial reasons. It is then a personal reward. As such it is understandable that your career will suffer if you put too much emphasis on this hobby. Not that this is a bad thing, in the end you'll probably be happier dying with great memories than with a large bank account. But it is a choice. And if men were to take months off to go fishing and refused to work weekends, holidays, evenings, etc for their hobbies they would be rightly chastised for complaining when their career trajectory matched their time allocation choices.

I've never understood why people think they deserve to be paid more for less work.
Say me and a woman have a job stocking shelves, and since I'm a man with more testosterone and thus able to be stronger, I can lift 100lbs while my female coworker can only lift 20lbs, why should we be paid the same amount?
Man has to do more actual work because he is male but gets paid the same as the female doing less: equality.
Boss suggests that the female do something else to balance it out. Sure she can't life heavy things. But while he's doing that she could make coffee for everyone or something rather than standing around watching and getting paid to do nothing. It's not the exact same work but it's the same hours and relative effort: OMG SEXISM!
I once worked for a junk-hauling company. I'm 6'1, at the time I was 250lbs, I could strap a fridge to my back and haul it down a flight of stairs. My 'partner' was a 5'4 110lb woman who couldn't lift a 22-inch TV without a hand truck. She got paid the exact same as me.
