EXREMELY IMPORTANT ARTICLE!!!

First time I have seen scholarship of this caliber applied to any problems that predominantly affect men, boys, or fathers. In this case, the study identifies problems that affect men, boys AND fathers :)

Its fortunate that throwing men under the bus also negatively effects women and children otherwise no one would give a shit.

This paper is excellent at discussing the problems men (and boys) face but even it cant get its point across without talking about how these problems are serious (not because they affect half the fucking population) because of how they effect women.

This right here from the very first page highlights this: (emphasis mine)

Recent cohorts of males are likely to face diminished employment and earnings opportunities and other attendant maladies, including poorer health, higher probability of incarceration, and generally lower life satisfaction.

Of equal concern are the implications that diminished male labor market opportunities hold for the well-being of others—children and potential mates in particular.

So men are getting fucked and yeah thats a little bad but its just as bad because it might also hurt women and children.

I think the cause of the problem is single moms raising boys. Single moms do not teach young boys how to be responsible men because single moms don't know what it's like to be a man. Boys who grow up without a father-figure lack a male role model. No one teaches them how to be a responsible man.

Fatherless children are at a dramatically greater risk of drug and alcohol abuse, mental illness, suicide, poor educational performance, teen pregnancy, and criminality.

I would love to see an overlay of the divorce rate and/or out of wedlock birthrate applied to the male education rate. My hypothesis being that men no longer seek an improved living standard when there is no tangible benefit.

Sorting out the causal factors behind these trends is a challenging but nonetheless central topic for social science research and public policy.

I submit that it's highly likely that the rise of women in the workforce, a result of the civil rights movement and cultural changes that have allowed women to do such things only very recently, has led to a growth in employment and educational success for women. This naturally leads to stagnation for men who lose market share so to speak, but who have historically dominated these areas.

It also should be clear that while this paper focuses on the cloudy future of boys, we celebrate the progress of girls.

I nearly stopped reading after I read the title and the first 2 sentences. However this is a REALLY REALLY good piece of work. Very balanced and very thorough.
