Pretty sure it's been routinely proven that people of both sexes (and definitely men) feel more sympathy for women than men in basically every possible scenario.

You'll notice no data was provided to back up their claims. This would likely be because no such data exists.

[–]Miserable-Cut-7017 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child) | Copy Link

They will pull up self reporting sentiment data, which is actually the least useful data you can pull up regarding something like this, however gets waved around like its a fact. One of my favorite is the leisure gap, which I am convinced that there has never been a proper study on.

[–]Upper-Divide-7842 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Does such data exist though?

The leisure gap could be completeky real and it still wouldn't prove that people are generally more empathetic to men than women.

What can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.

Otherwise, I assert a tiny Russell's tea pot is orbiting around Earth, and if you can't disprove that then it's there.

The only situation in which she might have a point is: people might have more sympathy for a very well-liked famous man than for an average woman. But of course that's not a fair comparison.

[–]flipsidetroll -5 points-4 points-3 points 1 year ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You can’t really collect data on how you feel compared to how others feel. There is no baseline. “Are you empathetic to men?” “Yes”. But you can’t prove or disprove it. It’s like saying you love someone but that someone doesn’t feel that you do love them.

[–]Upper-Divide-7842 13 points14 points15 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure. Though it would be better than nothing and nothing is what they have.

I'm refering more to things like how ready people are to accept instrumental harm coming to a person of one sex over the other.

https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10508-023-02571-0

Hold one sex less accountable for the crimes they commit.

https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/13218710802242011

Be harsher on criminals when said sex is the victim of a crime.

https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1767508

https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1559-1816.1994.tb01552.x

More likely to recognise abuse perpetrated against them as abuse.

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/25166069211060091

Less likely to recognise the abuse they pepetrate as such.

https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0886260519842172

And a great many other metrics that would seem to me to indicate empathy and sympathy in practice.

To be clear my point is not that men are maximally empathetic to women and women are completely cold and uncaring towards men. It's that they were claiming that women are already "expected" to be excessively empathetic towards men and that men do not reciprocate.

This claim does not appear to be true in any way that actually has a measurable effect on behaviour or even on stated values.

IF anything, the opposite is true to some extent.

We do have data on how harms against men are evaluated compared to that against women, though. In fact, there are six studies which fit into a broader narrative that categorizes men as perpetrators and women as victims.

Man up and take it: Gender bias in moral typecasting

Informed by moral typecasting theory, we predicted a gender bias in harm evaluation, such that women are more easily categorized as victims and men as perpetrators. Study 1 participants assumed a harmed target was female (versus male), but especially when labeled ‘victim’. Study 2 participants perceived animated shapes perpetuating harm as male and victimized shapes as female. Study 3 participants assumed a female employee claiming harassment was more of a victim than a male employee making identical claims. Female victims were expected to experience more pain from an ambiguous joke and male perpetrators were prescribed harsher punishments (Study 4). Managers were perceived as less moral when firing female (versus male) employees (Study 5). The possibility of gender discrimination intensified the cognitive link between women and victimhood (Study 6). Across six studies in four countries (N = 3,137), harm evaluations were systematically swayed by targets’ gender, suggesting a gender bias in moral typecasting.

I wouldn't say it is "routinely proven" though, since proofs are mostly for mathematicians and jurists. Even theoretical physicists shy away from using that word to describe real-world phenomena.

I think it's more personal issues than anything else.

If there is anything I feel is fully deserving of retort it's how much disdain she has against sustaining a healthy household. I don't think child me has EVER considered my mother or father as less than for staying home when they could, or doing their best when they couldn't (I did miss my dad a lot though). And it's this internalized self hatred about doing this that is always so alarming.

It's like women don't understand the COMPLETE shift in life values when a family is built. It's like time travel. All those glorious things you remember your parents doing? REPEAT IT. The things you felt could be better? MAKE IT BETTER. You are essentially just rubbing putty over the holes in your timeline to raise a well thought, developed, and free acting individual. And they feel like it's the worst thing they could do with their life? What the actual fuck?

Look, she could have spoken better about male issues when she dismisses most of them as: blame the patriarchy, not my problem. But frankly her opinion about keeping a healthy and clean home just... If you don't understand how important a foundation is to success, what grounds have you to speak on anything else? It always irks me.

Maybe she is just glossing over it, but I feel like that's kind of the only thing she thought poorly about women being seen as. Meanwhile that's like the best thing you could do for any child. I'll look at it again I might just be crazy.

[–]World-Three 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

She brings it up like 6 minutes in. She's got issues with unpaid and unappreciated work among other things, and I guess if no one values it, she doesn't either.

The idea she feels it's patriarchal is just icing on the cake of why she doesn't care to want to do it. She understands how important it is, but I guess it's just not something she wants people to appreciate because patriarchy.

Its just gender war thinking again, I don't know why this sub pays so much attention to irrelevant actors that know nothing about men's issue really.

I expected this sub to be focused more around men's issues not a constant stream of people falling for rage baits and misandrist takes.

[–]VolcanoSheep26 -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is what I wish as well.

We can all spend so much time just complaining about the "enemy" when we could be talking about things we can do for eachother and bills to support etc.

[–]wumbo-inator 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Anyone that believes that women extending empathy to men is the status quo is saying something very disgusting and misandrist

First, there are studies that show the bias and empathy gap that exists. So to make that statement is to ignore the empathy gap which harms men, which is a misandrist thing to do

Second, it ignores that conversation on men’s issues and gender equality for men has been negligible for the century that feminism has had a monopoly on the conversation for gender equality. To ignore how men have been left behind for a century is misandrist

Third, it ignores how the narratives and philosophy that feminism has advanced is inherently anti male and requires a lack of empathy for men to really survive in anyone’s mind. To ignore how these narratives have taken root and then oppressed men is misandrist

Overall, to make that statement is to take the intense pain men feel, take the apathy society has had towards men suffering that intense pain, and then trivialize, obfuscate, and hide it. Therefore allowing it to continue

[–]Kuato2012 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

women extending empathy to men is the “status quo.”

The data suggests the exact opposite (for the five of us left in he world who care about truth over "narrative").

With that link, the mods might take this down.

never been the case and never will be the case. both genders generally extend empathy to women and conditionally extend it to men

to be frank i don’t know why men do it bc they do it with women outside of their personal lives like strangers and ppl they will never see again so i can’t imagine it’s purely motivated by lust the way a lot of ppl think, but for women their strong female in-group bias motivates generally extending empathy to other women

and tbh i don’t ever see a world where society will broadly extend empathy towards men bc unless it’s for the explicit purpose of being critical, ppl don’t typically look at men just based off gender. you get the empathy when you drill into intersectional dynamics, like black men young men homeless men mentally ill men working class men, there are a ton of different qualities a man can have that invite societal empathy, but typically not the gender in and of itself imo

She's just stupid, I couldn't even bear to watch it completely because of the amount of stupidity. I can't even count the number of times she contradicts her own views in just one video.

In the beginning itself she claims that men and women have the same brain which I agree with then she claims that men have no empathy towards women while women have too much empathy towards men, which she blames on men how does that not contradict the fact that we are equal. Then she claims that all men have enjoyed for a millenia and continues to claim that men going to war and doing dangerous jobs doesn't matter because the people deciding that are the top 1% of men. She's just combining a bunch of feminist arguments that don't make any sense when put together. I'm sure there are a lot of other issues but I don't want to waste any more of my time talking about it or watching her video

[–]Fit-Commission-2626 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children) | Copy Link

man this group will not even extend the empathy towards me to let me post one lousy post a day without being insulted and now censored and yet you are talking about other people because as much as i hate feminism at least their honest.
