Biggest issue with waiting until marriage to have sex is that a lot of people who did it found out the hard way on their wedding night that the sex was terrible. That's kinda something you need to find out about before you get married, because that will almost definitely cause problems in the marriage.

This is kinda how I live my life today. I won't say I base it on 1950's norms so much as I just live by the basic tenants of my former faith, without all the hocus pocus. Its interesting that there are enough folks like me that a movement is happening, because frankly I've met very few like-minded people. After all, if you've left your faith, you generally leave behind the teachings as well. But for me, leaving the faith wasn't about disagreement with the core tenants, but disagreement over the "church" as an organization.

Overall I think "do unto others" is a damn fine heuristic for a solid society. I think the 10 Commandments, although dated, are a pretty good addition. I think far less casual sex is a good thing, although with marriage in the shambles its in, and the fact that those who DO marry tend to wait until closer to 30, I don't think no sex outside marriage is realistic. I'd say as little sex outside a committed relationship as possible is the closest we'll see again, and its up to each individual to decide how much casual sex is too much in a partner.

As to this movement? Don't know anything about it, but I'd start by changing the name. Remove Christian (because that will just piss off fundies) and in its place something more like Moral or Ethical. shrug I'm not good at marketing, but I know that name strikes me as odd.

EDIT: Ethical Atheism kinda has a ring to it. LOL

The concept of "Christian Atheism" isn't a new thing. Even Thomas Jefferson is said to have used the bible as a blueprint for society, but rejecting the unbelievable works of Jesus.

Honestly, I think it's a good blueprint. I think any red piller would agree, actually. We just realize that it's not the world we live in, the genie is out of the bottle with regards to sex, and it's never going back in, and proscribe a way to deal with reality instead of lament what could have been.

i like the idea of christian atheism. i'm a jewish atheist - i engage in jewish tradition, conversation, and identity. but what you're describing - modesty, chastity, and 1950's gender roles - aren't christian virtues, they're simply aspects of traditional society found in many cultures and religions. actual christian atheism would be studying the teachings of bible from a more analytical/morally minded point of view, engaging in christian holidays and traditions, and going to a church where beautiful hymns depicting mythical stories are sung by non-believers.

You do realize that the majority of people were on birth control, having sex before marriage, having abortions, and most women worked outside of the home in the 1950s, right? Only the upper middle class and above were one-income households, and only temporarily while there were very young children at home. Same as today. Only today, it's not a choice. It's almost impossible to survive with kids on only one income.

I think the idea of religions keeping stuff like small traditions, like the way they dress, rituals, etc will probably be kept long after the religion dies off. That being said, these seemed to have become traditions mostly because they were forced on women because they believed in the bullshit of Christianity. So fuck Christianity and feed it fish heads.

Anyway, Penn and Teller did a great episode on their Bullshit series about 1950s nostalgia and going back to the good old days, where women and minorities had less rights, so fuck that noise.

I see Christians post on TRP every once in a while, detailing the ways they have implemented RP in their lives and marriages.

Edit: Sorry, my point being that TRP is about casual outside-of-marriage sex only when the man who implements RP is looking for that. Take what you need, and leave the rest.

As a fellow ex-Christian I can assure you that you don't need to align yourself with "Christian Atheism" or any group for that matter. Contrary to popular belief, not having a religion does not mean you do not have values. Stick to your conservative values if that is what you think is the most morally sound way to live your life. You can spread a message of modesty without having a religion.
