Honest question: doesn't everyone naturally do this? What does the "red pill" ideology have to prove that this is a gender-specific trait? Or at the very least, more rampant in women?

I can understand the basis of most RP theories, but this one has always confused me. I'd like to just get out of the way that it is used in a very nasty, one-sided way in TRP - outsiders are immediately accused of solipsism, while insiders are allowed to write essays about how their inner changes have affected those around them and vice versa. Anecdotes that support TRP are not condemned for solipsism, anecdotes that don't support it are.

That aside, I'm not sure what the mechanism is for this to be a feminine trait.

Personally I think it originated as a noticing and renaming of certain phenomena that may or may not be a consequence of feminism going too far.

That is an outright stupid application of the word solipsism on their part (whoever is doing it).

When I was little, I used to wonder (consciously) how it was truly certain that everything around me wasn't a dream, and that I wasn't just some lone being surrounded by nothing. I think that's a pretty good example of being solipsistic.

Solipsism refers to a woman's tendency to make herself the centre of any given subject by framing every issue in terms of "how does this effect me?"

Solipsism = self centeredness as the RP understands it, even if it's defined in a more long winded way. It's just another RP appropriation of a word that has a wildly different accepted meaning to the rest of the world. Being self centered is not a gendered trait, as exhibited by many RP subscribers themselves. It's far more likely that self centeredness is a symptom of a lack of social intelligence/awareness and empathy. Notice how self centeredness is derided as "solipsism" as applied to women and celebrated as "cultivation of dark triad traits/being alpha/MGTOW" when applied to men? The majority of RP views are sexist in this way: cock carousel for women, spinning plates and having harems for men is another good example.

Are you suggesting that because RPillers seem to believe that all women are solipsistic, women are chosen for their solipsism?

Disclaimer: While I've posted a couple times in /r/thebluepill lately, I am mostly neutral in the Redpill/Bluepill debate. As such this response is not from a Redpill standpoint.

Logically, solipsism benefits someone (of either gender) by allowing them to:

Boost their self-esteem. Thinking about every situation like you're the center of it presumably makes it easy to view yourself as more important than others around you.
Make life seem more interesting, for reasons similar to the ones listed for number 1.
This could actually lead to someone being more empathetic, because they might "personalize" the plight of another and therefore think about how they'd feel if they were in that situation. Empathy can sometimes be advantageous.
Depending on how you weigh it, asking "how does this affect me" can make it easier to rationalize shitty behavior, primarily shitty behavior that benefits the solipsist. Doing shitty things and not feeling bad about it, while obviously the sort of thing that usually comes back to bite you in the ass, does offer short-term benefit.

And to be honest, yes, I do think that this describes a good number of the women I know pretty well. I don't know if it's a survival mechanism, or just some kind of socialized trait, or what, though.

Here's a great example of solipsism from TheBluePill

I ask, "Do you believe that there are any differences in what men and women are attracted to?"

the response, "I'm attracted to men I find physically attractive." It's both tautology and solipsistic. Awesome!

I offer the following analogy to explain why that answer is inadequate: "If I make the claim that men tend to be taller than women, and you reply "well I'm a woman and I'm 6' tall!" do you see how that doesn't really address the claim?"

the response: "All the women I know are attracted to those same things." She still doesn't get it.

For what it's worth, both men and women do this, quite obviously. But the big cognitive difference between men and women, in my opinion, is that men tend to want to systematize things, and that process is fundamentally extroverted.
