What do you think makes a topic (in)valid for PPD? What topics do you enjoy most?

My favourite threads are usually the ones discussing research.

I'm not a fan of the (usually hostile, rambly) ones that are like "isn't it true that as TRPer you eat babies/as a TBPer you are too dumb to tie your shoes, discuss"

I like topics that apply theory to test them to novel situations, and ones where people aren't starting with a poisoned debate or begging the question (eg "TRP, have you stopped beating your wife?" or "Feminists, are you old and ugly, or just ugly?") or ones where it doesn't wander into bizarre conspiracy theories. I try to stay away from the strongly polarized threads, and my other least favourite part is trying to argue about terms nobody has a solid definition for.

I'm pretty sure that anything tangentially related to sex, gender and social relationships is reasonable- although it would be easily possible to get off track with a socialist/libertarian debate.

All general topics are valid. However, some people tend to get into the realm of baseless attacks, leading questions, and ad hominem, and those are simply poor form and violate the good faith of our debate.

That said, tactics are a better debate, as they can be better argued. If RP tactics succeed or fail, it's evidence. An argument over morals and ideas is pretty useless because TRP is amoral.

The best topics are ones that get one side or another by their emotions. When people get emotionally involved the truth tends to spill out, which is enlightening.

I like a variety of topics. Maybe we could do with an occasional topic that has a whimsical or humorous approach the issues, just to change things up. What sort of a pet is an alpha more likely to own, a dog, a cat, or maybe alphas don't need no fuzzy freeloaders?

I'd permit most topics and let votes and comments determine PPD's interest. I don't think we should have dishonesty like "Do you club baby seals?" but otherwise, TRP purports to be relevant in most parts of life and I think most topics could stand some PPD pill-unpacking.

I prefer debating morality to debating fact (cringeworthy false dichotomy though) because moral mistakes are more important than factual mistakes to me. I also prefer when there is previously existing pill discussion on the topic, an anchor we can draw on to show different viewpoints that already exist.

A lot of complaints about topics seem to come from users who felt obligated to defend positions that come from "their" pill, especially if the topic is "user-generated" because then it could be anything, even a troll. They're not obligated to defend it though, and they don't leave us much to discuss if we can't talk about topics that arise in these communities.

It leads to absurd conclusions like,

Even if it turns out that redpillschool himself was the author of that comment the principle stands that it's not a valid topic for discussion.

Or, a PPD mod criticized for asking "What does PPD think?" of some controversy already in RP/RP-BP.

If your opinion is that a particular example is a troll, a fringe element, or unimportant that is part of the debate. You can make that argument or avoid the topic, but it doesn't make sense to me to start restricting "user-generated" stuff here. When there are recurring, popular and even leadership-backed positions they're certainly valid topics. We can let votes and comments determine PPD's interest in them.
