Honestly I'm not the most attractive guy in the world but I'm not bad looking, I've generally been successful with women. However I went through a long spell of getting rejected by any woman I went near after I went through one bad breakup and ended up down/low on confidence/frankly a little desperate, this lasted around a year.

So, in my experience a bad personality is enough to effectively remove you from the dating market, and being not ugly is not enough to guarantee success.

This is all just to say that if you actually meet someone you gel with your self perceived ugliness could be an absolute non-factor. But for me when I was in a similar situation that didn't happen because I was so caught up in my own desire to find something that I was never able to kick back and let my personality out.

I do get what you're saying, but its an effort you have to consciously make. Keep your self esteem in check (cause its super attractive), have a good body (It will be healthy and keep your self esteem up if you like your body) thigns like that. Im pretty sure guys that are ugly and 'confident' think of confidence as something you portray to your relationships as a way of getting something out of the other person. I havent met much and my scope is limited (reddit is the source of info which is heavily skewed). I dont think that a guy that is nice, confident but ugly would be considered a creep if he doesnt do anything creepy like. Thats my viewpoint here in Spain I bet the US is way more toxic.

But confidence is the most important feeling you need to be happy and that im sure of. First love yourself, then the rest.

And I know its difficult because of all the toxic masculinity and all the media that portrays the hot guys as what every woman wants, the best thing you can do is read about these topics, make friends of the same sex you have a personal preference with, even with the ones you consider ugly, and you will see attractiveness doesn't play a role in forming a relationship although it is critical for first impressions

We'll agree to disagree I guess, attraction (not physical) is something that can happen suddenly or something you can develop for someone while you're friends or go out for dates or whatever. More and more people are realising that the limits of their sexuality start and end where society thinks is acceptable. Sexuality changes or not, but you can feel attracted to anything, that is what im trying to say, dont limit yourself because of your physical appearance. Because most women wont base their decision to start a relationship on physical appearance, it will be an important factor but its not the only one.

And sexual attraction depends greatly on the situation you're in. Its a really complicated topic. And tbh I dont have the energy anymore to try and explain. Physical appereance can change and your confidence is tied to that (at least thats my personal experience) taking care of yourself will really help.

Being a realist and knowing you can make a decision to try and improve this i way more diferent than being a realist and deciding to not improve just because there's no use in it and ppl are only interested in physical appearance. It sounds like what an incel would think.

That I cannot agree with. It is biologist to think that something is so primal you cant dismantle it. Like the horrible argument I've heard sometimes: justifying rape just because the 'man' once they get hard (or have the itch) they have to get it dealt with.

That might have convinced someone 100 years ago but now we know its a disgusting argument that compares men with animals and justifies rape which I find abhorrent.

Are we the animals sometimes we compare ourselves with or are with the dominant species on earth that should be able to educate our students in realising that there's nothing bad in feeling attracted to one person or another but knowing that that attraction will make you more susceptible to being impartial against somebody.

It is ingrained in us but I believe we, humans, can and will realise we are the masters of our body and brains and that we can make a change. We are different to animals in that we can choose to do what are instincts tells us or not.

Okay, I get that you cant force anybody to like a physical quality. That is a personal choice that should always be respected that's why we have consent.

So, In an ideal world where everybody can be attractive (better said: what we consider attractive right now). I feel like attractivenes would change and we would get different goal posts of what is considered attractive and what isn't. Not solving the problem at all.

And what about people that like a physical quality that is considered ugly for other people. Would that person endure an operation to make himself attractive when he's already attractive to people that like that physical quality?

I feel like ugliness/hotness is a concept that is imposed on us by society and media but its not an objective concept and that is something we have to understand.

Society makes us want to like somebody that is considered 'attractive' and when anybody finds an 'ugly' person attractive we are encouraged to keep it to ourselves to not be ridiculed or make it a fetish to also hide it.

Thats what I want to change in society. There's no objective 'attractiveness' factor but society widens that factor to what we consider hot in media making it more difficult to like whatever we want. Making it easier for some people to appear more attractive than others while suppressing other people that have different qualities.

Sorry I didn't understand what you were referring too I must have misconstrued your comment. I do agree that obviously biology plays a part but thats just being biologist (dunno if that word exists in english here in spain it is being used more and more to justify sexism).

The thing is even though it plays a part for example men are generrally (and I say generally cause im one of the exceptions) are more promiscuous than women. But we, as the dominant species of the planet, should be able to realise these are just preconceptions we have in our brains and I know loads of people that try to deconstruct themselves to stop putting these prejudgements before they even met the person. I agree that they are huge generalisation but it is how I feel and it doesn't make in anyway stupid to base your opinions on how you feel about something.
