No proof. 30+ years ago. Hearsay.

Sorry little guy, it just doesn’t add up. Go be a White Knight somewhere else.

[–]viscountsj 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Hearsay is reporting something that someone said/wrote/whatever outside of court, in support of the allegation. Like if someone else had testified and said "he said he raped her", that would be hearsay. It's reporting what someone said it of court.

So this is an unproven allegation, not hearsay. Doesn't make it more valid, just means it is admissable.

Don't actually have an opinion on whether it happened - nobody but them knows. Also not my country, so I'm not so bothered

[–]Adolf-Skroatler 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Nice try, but when others state that the situation is true, but it is really just rumors of a second or third party, it becomes hearsay on their part.

[–]viscountsj 7 points8 points9 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

No try involved fella, she gave testimony first person which means it's not legally hearsay.

There are other bits which are, to be fair. Plenty of "I heard someone say" stuff about.

[–]Golgon3 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Forget it, he is too far gone to even grasp simple logic. Anything conflicting his viewpoint is from the evil libtards and has to be ignored.

Like I say, it's not my country, I don't care what happens with America's supreme court.

[–]Adolf-Skroatler -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I see your point, her testimony is definitely NOT hearsay.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being M.I.T. material, and 1 being registered to vote Democrat, where do you see yourself?

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (42 children) | Copy Link

Wait, is this a republican sub?

[–]DarkSoulsEater 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (41 children) | Copy Link

You dont have to be republican to not want to vote for retards and SJW.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (40 children) | Copy Link

In your world is that synonymous with a democrat?

[–]DarkSoulsEater 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (39 children) | Copy Link

Mainstream Democrats, yes.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (38 children) | Copy Link

What is a mainstream democrat? Are you talking about politicians or voters you see on Reddit/Facebook?

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Voted in politicians represent the people that voted for them.

Many democrats are shit, simple as that. The mainstream media, which is Leftist, is pure shit aswell.

So since i can count 1+1 together, i know that mainstream democrats are trash. The good people left the bad company or clearly distance themselves otherwise.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That's an interesting viewpoint. As a foreign bystander, it's really hard for me to understand why someone would vote for republicans unless they're rich themselves and want to protect their company/assets but that's probably because of where I grew up.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Then check the history of both parties.

It were democrats (at that time you could consider them conservatives) that were for slave keeping. And it were anti-slavery activists that founded the republican party.

It was a democrat in higher position that opposed the decision of the higher ups to let certain black students into the school facility.

And it also were Democrats opposing the womens vote.

I also always thought that Republicans are the "big company, filthy rich" party, but its rather the party of the common people.

Republicans believe in what the founding fathers wanted. Democrats dont. Democrats want more power to the state (say unlimited), just like communists and socialists want it. And from history we know exactly that its a terrible idea. And the founding fathers did aswell.

There is a lot more to it, but it were the Republicans that represented ordinary, good people.

Im an outsider myself actually, not from the US. But you can clearly see from the trend that SJWs tend to be left and the mainstream media IS pro-democrats.

Then you just have to check history and all that and you can understand why i would rather be republican than democrat.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Sounds like you haven't read on the history of the parties yourself if you don't know about the gradual platform shift between them. If you watch what laws either party tries to pass, it becomes obvious that the republican party favors the rich far more than the "common people". Less money to public education, more tax breaks for the rich, more power to companies, more privatization of health care (which is almost always bad for the common people, mind you), more keeping of the status quo instead of actual progress. I'm not saying the democratic party doesn't have those same qualities, I just see them as a far lesser evil.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Theres a big difference between "Democrat and Republican" aswell as "conservative and liberal". Thats the platform shift you mean.

The issues you have spoken out are more of the "libertarian" party. Like really, its rather the libertarians that want that. Yes, the republicans did some of that aswell. But no party is perfect and is prone to some extent to evil. But the Republican party IS the party of the people and always was.

Either way, check history. Its the democrats that were the elitists and the democrats that were for may bad things, aswell as against the founding fathers.

I honestly see the democrats as the way bigger evil in many way. Its history is proof to that.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Again, your arguments are based on what was true in the past and isn't anymore. It doesn't really what either party did decades ago, it matters what they do now. At the moment the republican party mostly drives for the things I mentioned. More rights and privileges and less taxes and responsibilities for the rich and big companies. Less pay, vacation, health services and housing for the poor and lower middle class. Make of that what you will.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

First off, since Trump, a republican, everyone had to pay lower taxes, not only rich.

Secondly, rich already pay an unfair amount of taxes and absolutely deserve to pay less.

Third, universal healthcare like Obamacare is a drain and a problem. It is not a good thing.

About the other points im not sure, didnt look into that so cant give an exact opinion.

Also, when were talking about what is now, the Democrats are owning fake news, are the ones harboring Antifa and other SJWs, are the ones that try to remove a republican from senate by endorsing false rape accusation, had a presidency candidate that was a disgusting liar and overall massive cunt.

All while pushing for government control in form of an authoritarian one, socialism, the racist idea of collectivism based on skin color and ethnicity and trying to undo the first and second amendment.

Yeah, even when only looking at the present, the Democrats still look like a piece of shit party, so no thanks.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

That's pretty absurd. First of all, lowering taxes is not something that's good for the masses since it leaves less money for public services. It sounds appealing but actually only benefits the rich even when everyone gets them. So poor would have more money in the pocket but since everything gets privatized, it isn't worth as much.

Secondly, taxing the rich is vital in ensuring deep enough pokets for the government budget. The rich have more than enough money to pay taxes. Ask Bill Gates.

Third, universal health care is a good thing and when you budget it correctly, it absolutely benefits everyone and it's a system we should all be thriving towards. Obviously this isn't possible if we keep lowering taxes for the wealthy. What is a drain is people not having the means to pay for their healthcare.

Everytime I've seen somebody calling something "fake news", it's been a republican and the news have been real. And by the way, the person sitting in the office right now is a disgusting liar and a massive dick. The whole either-or situation in US politics is the worst thing in all of this really.

Using "socialism" as some sort of deterrant won't work for me. It's not a curse word where I'm from. Isn't a bit cold war era type labeling anyways? Things American call socialist are considered normal and expected ways to organize services inside a government in most of Europe and we're quite happy with it.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Okay, so yorue basically defending more government control and shittalking paying lower taxes by saying everything gets worse automatically, without any basis.

Yep, youre defending Democrats.

You fail at soooo many things to understand them.

You think it isnt fake news, but it evidently is. Socialism is a deterrant and history shows it.

Everytime I've seen somebody calling something "fake news", it's been a republican and the news have been real.

Anecdotal evidence. And yet, even then youre wrong. Im not republican and i call it fake news. So does the majority of america that think that they cant trust mainstream media.

Fine with me, it doesnt matter. I dont have interest in educating someone who ignores the entire shitshow that Democrats are.

Good day.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Without any basis? The basis is the actual well off countries that have high taxes and universal health care and a good public education system.

Again, you are using "socialism" as some sort of an insult. I see this as a common tactic when discussing Obamacare and such which are so far away from socialism that it's behind the horizon. It's just a cheap word to make things seem evil to non educated Americans without having to look into anything.

Of course it's in a sense anecdotal since I have to view the world from my perspective. But that anecdotal experience includes all the reliable major news sites. Haven't seem anything but republicans claiming real news fake in an effort to distract the masses. And you said it yourself... they think they can't trust the media so they call out "fake news" whenever something doesn't fit to their opinion on how the world should be.

You still didn't, and I suspect you never will, address what laws rebublicans try and pass these days. Just going through list would quickly show you who the "people's party" is if either can be called that.

You don't have to educate me on anything. Both parties are shitshows, democrats just less so.

[–]DarkSoulsEater0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The basis is the actual well off countries that have high taxes and universal health care and a good public education system.

Like Germany and Sweden? Which both have a massive load of free loaders and basically give up 40% or so of their income to welfare?

Again, you are using "socialism" as some sort of an insult.

Because it is.

Go educate yourself. You have no actual fucking idea what a social-democracy and what socialism is.

It is evident that you barely know anything.

Democrats are bullshit and batshit retarded. Youre proof of that.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It's interesting that you resort to insults and foul language as if you had no other arguments. Sweden and Germany both have better health care and education systems than the US. And according to republicans the free loader thing is a big issue in the States, no? But I was thinking more like Norway and Switzerland in this case anyway.

You yourself seem to have difficult in defining socialism since you brought up socialism with Obamacare. But I guess you are right in saying that it is an insult because one probably can use any word as an insult. Doesn't mean the word used is a bad thing though.

Again, I'm not a democrat, I'm not even a US citizen. You also seem to have a low bar for batshit crazy if a person with different opinions qualifies. What do you call actual crazy people?

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Ye sure buddy.

Its not my problem when you refuse facts.

You just show how retarded you have to be to support Democrats.

What do you call actual crazy people?

Demorcrats. Thats what i call them.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

What facts have you provided me? The irrelevant historical events you described? Never denied any of that. It's just irrelevant when looking at what the parties do now. I'd be happy to take a look at some political actions the republicans have taken which the democrats have stood against that would actually really help the common people (from poor to lower middle class).

For the third time, I don't support the democrats. I couldn't support them even if I wanted to as I'm not a US citizen (unless you are talking about some sort of monetary aid or involvement in political actions or functions which I also do not take part in).

As for your final note, don't you think it's a bit unhealthy to think that a person with different political beliefs is crazy? It's fine if you can't understand their convictions, motives and beliefs but crazy? I don't think that will lead to any kind of constructive discussion.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The irrelevant historical events you described?

irrelevant

History is irrelevant bois!

For the third time, I don't support the democrats.

You actually do by supporting their viewpoints.

As for your final note, don't you think it's a bit unhealthy to think that a person with different political beliefs is crazy?

There are people that believe in Socialism and Communism. They are crazy ineed.

So nope, it isnt unhealthy. You are either right (republican) or youre wrong.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I didn't say history is irrelevant. I quite clearly stated that what these parties did decades ago is irrelevant considering the total platform shift they've gone through. If republicans today decide to tax the rich less and cut the health care budget, it doesn't really matter what they did 20 years ago, does it?

As I've said earlier, democrats are in my opinion the lesser evil. I'd rather work toward demolishing the two party system.

But things like universal healthcare aren't socialism. That's where this part of the discussion started. You called it socialism in hopes of that triggering some sort of kneejerk reaction to think that it's immediately bad. That's what I disliked about that particular comment.

You'll hopefully come to understand in the future that actually putting yourself in place of others and trying to understand their mindset actually makes it easier to argue your point. It also makes the discussion much more pleasant and furtile. If you dismiss every opinion that differs from your own, you'll probably end up in your own echo chamber, in your own bubble, with no differing opinions, no one to challenge you and thus no way to learn anything and to better yourself. Furthermore, you'll actually make it impossible to have discussion between different camps and to actually reach any kinds of compromises. This hinders both your personal growth and the progress of society. Both are things that most people think are something to strive for.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

As I've said earlier, democrats are in my opinion the lesser evil.

Thats why your opinion is still wrong.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I was under the impression that opinions can't be wrong.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

They most certainly can.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

How so? Opinions aren't facts. They might be based on facts and how one interprets them but opinions themselves are just points of view and personal beliefs. They can differ from person to person while not being "wrong". Somebody disagreeing with how you see the world doesn't make them wrong. Actually, you are probably wrong about some facts too. I know I am, and I suspect most people are or have been. That's why it's good to have discussions.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If your viewpoint is objectively bad, then your opinion is trash. And your opinion even more so.

"In my opinion, Democrats are the lesser evil."

They arent. Thise youre wrong.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Trash how? Because it differs from yours? How can it be objectively bad when you have a country like US that's split pretty much 50-50 on the matter? How arrogant are you to assume that the other half is just batshit crazy? Don't you think it's actually more likely that the issues are very complex and thus it ultimately comes down to opinions with different people having different priorities?

"They aren't". That there is an opinion too. Not a fact.

I really hope you develop some skills in examining your own opinions and accepting different ones. It will make you a better person, I promise you that. It's a very useful skill to be able to admit oneself that you are wrong or made an error or misjudged someone/something. I do it daily. It makes improvement possible.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If you are a Republican, you probably:

  • support a capitalist and/or free-market economy in which people are able to keep what they earn

  • want lower income taxes

  • want more power to states and local government

  • want a smaller federal government

  • believe that the nation should be how the American Founding Fathers wanted it to be

  • believe that money would go better towards employing people than giving them welfare

  • believe that the Constitution should be followed more strictly

  • believe that free speech should be protected no matter who is offended

  • believe that homosexual couples should not be given marriage benefits paid for by tax payers (does not necessarily mean banning homosexuality or gay marriage entirely)

  • believes that birth control should not be free

  • believes that abortion should not be aloud (often with exception for rape and/or risk of the mother's life)

  • believe execution is okay for serious offenses

  • believe people should be aloud to bear arms

  • believe that minorities are just like any other people and laws should apply to people of different racial groups equally

And Democrats disagree. If you think Democrats, that think Socialism, affirmitive action, collectivism and thus judging based on ethnicity, direct democracy which is mobrule, removing the first and second amendment, are in any way the ones that are the lesser evil, then you are delusional.

Your opinion isnt based on facts or goodwill. It is based on misinformation or blatant rejection of truth and what is good, which both showcase the inability to see the Democrats anything other than lunatics.

If you think Democrats are the lesser evil, but ignore the states UNDER democrats rule like California, which right now is a terrible state, youre delusional.

If you think the Leftist owned Mainstream media, which is evidently an insincere, fearmongering squad of propaganda machines, is anything other than that, then youre delusional.

If you ignore the history of Democrats which was from the start a sexist and racist party, while thinking the Republicans which fucking freed the slaves are a party only for the rich, youre delusional.

Take it like you want. I present you the facts. You can chose to ignore them, but then youre just like a Democrat in that sense. Everythings said.

So go inform yourself or let it be. You arent right when you try to present the Democrats as anything other than i listed.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The things you listed aren't objectively good. Also, some of the things listed aren't so black and white as you presented them. For instance "believe that the Constitution should be followed more strictly" is only partially true. Both parties prefer to cherry pick with what constitutional rights to uphold and which should be revised. All these things that some people believe would be good steps toward a better society. Truthfully I agree with some points, but disagree with others. Luckily I don't have to make a decision between the two parties though.

So to recap. The list you provided is of opinions of what society should be like. You can logically reach an either for or against conclusion to any point in that list. It just depends on what your ideal society is like and how you think is the best way to reach it. You still haven't provided any facts about which party is better for the people. Why? Because there probably aren't any. Same goes for the democratic party, mind you. It comes down to your personal beliefs, values and ideals.

If the examined our opinions independently from the party platforms, we'd probably realize we're much closer in our political afflictions than when asked to choose with this rather extreme difference of these two parties. That's the whole problem. Having to chose a side, prioritizing certain key points and making compromises in others. For instance, if the whole climate change issue is the most important issue (a deal breaker so to say) to a person, they pretty much can't vote republican.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

The things you listed aren't objectively good. Also, some of the things listed aren't so black and white as you presented them.

They absolutely are.

Youre delusional. You have proven it over and over.

Edit:

The republicans are better. I have listed facts. But youre simply too retarded to understand them.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I notice you still quite haven't gotten the hang of grasping other perspectives than your own. Some people prefer chocolate ice cream, others vanilla. Both strive to enjoy their ice cream but need to make different choices to get there. Neither preference is "batshit crazy". There, I just explained it for you like you're five. Hope that helps.

Ultimately people strive to be happy. Different things make people happy. Politics is a way to navigate through all these differences and to make sure as many as possible are happy. Not everyone's idea of happiness is the same as yours. And yet, they aren't crazy for it. Imagine that.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

ome people prefer chocolate ice cream, others vanilla.

This isnt anything like that. Its either being a lunatic like you or Democrats, or not.

Youre retarded and delusional. I couldnt care in the least about your worthless opinion, which is based on ignorance and misinformation.

Good job staying true to the picture of Democrat Supporters. Just shows even further that your party is disgusting trash.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

"My party"? Jesus, I thought we already went through that one several times. Are you going by "if you aren't with us, you are against us" thing? Are you a Sith? I can tell you it isn't just democrats who are against republicans. There are other sides too. I'll do more ice cream analogies: my favourite ice cream is vanilla. If I have to choose between chocolate and strawberry, I'd take chocolate. Doesn't mean I like it.

You do know that people can reach different conclusions based on the same facts. After all, that's what facts are. They are objective. And yet, based on a certain fact two people can make entirely different choices. You seem to think there's always a clear choice derived from certain piece of information. Do you think that everybody that disagrees with you is just crazy and deluded? Well, actually that is what you've been saying. I just can't quite wrap my head around someone actually thinking that way. The ego behind that line of thinking is astounding.

Let me give you an example. Two people are given the same fact: eating ice cream is bad for you (can you tell I like ice cream?). The other one decides they prefer to keep eating ice cream because the enjoy the little things in life but also decides that they will take extra care of their teeth and calorie intake/outake. The other one decides to quit eating ice cream as they maybe don't enjoy it as much and don't want to go through the hassle of negating the effects. Now, is either of them wrong in their decision based on this same fact?

You can easily extend this analogy to abortions for example. We all know the facts (or should at least). People just prioritize different things. There isn't one right answer. This isn't math.

It's a pity you only seem to see this "us vs them" world through your eyes. I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to think that you are surrounded by stupid and crazy people. I couldn't handle it myself.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yes retard, keep your lunatic ramblings to yourself.

I didnt read anything except the last sentence.

Go educate yourself.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

"Go educate yourself" says a person who doesn't even bother to read the comments of the person he's having a discussion with.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

"Discussion"

Were not having one. Youre in denial of reality.

If we had a discussion, you would have made any argument.

So go educate yourself. Nothing what you said was educational, so i didnt miss out.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Discussion is when at least two people talk. You are probably thinking of debate. And "reality" here is again your interpretation of it.

Of course nothing's educational in your opinion if anything that differs from your own unique viewpoint is insane rambling. This way you are just missing out on like at least 90 % of people and what they have to say. It's interesting and pretty sad that someone wants to live their lives like that. You'll also never learn anything ever. Imagine that. You are as informed now as you'll ever be.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Dont worry mate, i got it better than you.

I am way more informed than you ever will be.

So good job being a lunatic.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm not really getting that impression by these comments. There might be Dunning-Kruger effect in play here. If you were informed about things even generally, you wouldn't be calling people lunatics just because their opinion differs from yours.

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

And again, youre in denial of reality and your distorted view of it gives you the wrong impression.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

How am I in denial since I'm at least willing to look at it from all sides?

[–]DarkSoulsEater1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Willing to look at it from all sides?

You dont. Just like a Democrat you say one thing but do the other.

You may look at different sides, but do so by using a mirror, to get a distorted view nonetheless.

Stay in denial, this talk is over.

[–]kawaiihawaiimogwaii2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Why do you say I do that? I have cross platform opinions, as I've already stated. I'm also willing to change my views in face of solid arguments and facts (and have done so in the past). It sounds more like you're the one who's put up camp on familiar ground and isn't willing to move no matter how big a tidal wave is coming your way because the wave is "delusional".

[–]Golgon3 -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

[–]Adolf-Skroatler 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I did have an engaging conversation with some other fella, but you are not worthy of arguing with.

You could not debate anyone. You are currently incapable of the mental capacity needed to do so.

How can anyone defend this blatant allegations that Ford made?

[–]Adolf-Skroatler 5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So we should believe anyone that claims they were raped? You are deranged.

Lots of women have falsely accused men of rape. It’s called Due Process, innocent until proven guilty.

[–]ScotlandsFavoriteSon 9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (28 children) | Copy Link

Not a pussy pass denied. Also I don’t know if he did it, you don’t know either. Obviously the lack of evidence means he cannot be charged for it and ultimately can’t be held accountable for the allegation. That being said why do you feel the need to defend him so much? He could’ve done it. The fact it cannot be proven means that particular bit of information probably shouldn’t prevent him from being appointed but there’s plenty of other reasons to keep him off the Supreme Court.

[–]Adolf-Skroatler 8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Why do you feel the need to defend her so much? Conveniently bringing up allegations from 30 years ago makes this a politically motivated move.

Tell me which other reasons do you have that should keep him off the Supreme Court?

[–]ScotlandsFavoriteSon 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

I didn’t defend her. At all in fact. It may be politically motivated it may not, there’s simply no way to know because as you pointed out she said it happened 30 years ago.

He refused to answer the question “can a sitting president pardon himself of a crime?” Which is an extremely easy question for anyone who understands the law. No, you cannot self-pardon, that would be too much power and the President is not supposed to be a dictator. I disagree with him on a number of other legislative issues but that is my largest concern as it shows a very obvious bias. A Supreme Court justice is not supposed to have party allegiance.

[–]Adolf-Skroatler -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

But the Justices do have opinions.

[–]ScotlandsFavoriteSon 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

It’s not an opinion question, the law is very clear on the powers of a president.

[–]Adolf-Skroatler -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

You said he had answered a question. That’s his opinion. That’s why we have so many Justices. They rarely, if ever interpret the law the same way.

[–]ScotlandsFavoriteSon 6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Some things are not up for debate. Like the fact no one under United States law can pardon himself. The power to self pardon would make the president a dictator by staying he is above the law, which is why he cannot do it. This is not up for debate.

[–]Adolf-Skroatler 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Fortunately there are other Justices on the bench that would prevent such a thing.

I have not read-up on the subject where Kavanaugh says he thinks that’s a good idea. I will look into it, and get back with you later.

You are the only person on this discussion that did not go bananas talking to me, and for that, I thank you. If you have the time, gander their posts, entertainingly to say the least.

[–]ScotlandsFavoriteSon 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I frequently find myself in the position of being one of if not the only person willing to have a reasonable dialogue. Both sides of the isle would rather go nuts than actually talk things out like adults. Thanks for talking to me instead of hurling insults, I appreciate your discussion as well.

[–]Adolf-Skroatler 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

I had an opportunity to look at some of the news on his refusal to answer if a president should be immune. While I have not had the chance to dig into it, if he truly believes that presidents should be immune to prosecution, then that would be very scary.

[–]ScotlandsFavoriteSon2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I agree. What also worries me is his refusal to answer the question one way or another. This is an issue the court may well have to rule on and a potential appointee shouldn’t reject a relevant question. Perhaps he wouldn’t actually rule in favor of a self-pardon but I feel we the voters have a right to know before our representatives vote to confirm him.

[–]Adolf-Skroatler1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I think any other issues one might have with Kavanaugh got pushed to the side by the allegations of Dr. Ford.

Don’t blast me for this, but I have no other way to put it.... the media has been centered on claims made by a person that could not be substantiated, and rather than focus on the real issues, they made a big mess of this 30 year old subject.

[–]ScotlandsFavoriteSon2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I agree. That’s what the media always does: they focus on bullshit rather than policy and substance. Stormy Daniels is in the news constantly as though it’s criticism of Trump when there’s actual policy he’s passing that’s totally ignored that I think the majority of Americans would object to.

I understand rape is a big deal but if the people freaking out about the allegations made the policy based arguments against Kavanaugh I think some conservatives would be inclined to agree. If we stopped yelling at each other over bullshit or totally unprovable allegations we might get somewhere.

[–]Schraelnick -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No, you're a moron if you didn't see this as bipartisan politics at it's worst.

[–]ScotlandsFavoriteSon 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Do you mean partisan politics at its worst? Bipartisan means it does not side with one side or the other solely for the sake of sticking with the party. Regardless of the sexual assault claims Kavanaugh and regardless of which party he is a part of I oppose his politics especially on the grounds of his refusal to deny the possibility of a self presidential-pardon.

Edit: typo

[–]Kingofthegnome -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I’ve noticed a strong pattern amongst the Leftists. They are unable to make a statement without lashing out. Do you believe anyone with a strong character would believe your position when calling them names?

[–]barcased -5 points-4 points-3 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Your first instinct is to put a label on me in regard of my political leaning? And "lashing out", really? What for, calling you a "dimwit"? But, you are one and each and every comment on here that you've made strongly supports that claim.
