I've hopped around from books, because one book (or some life events / posts) will inspire an area of interest, and I knew of another book that went into depth further on that subject. When you've got an itch for knowledge, scratch it. You can always go back to the other book later. You'll absorb the information better when it resonates with what you're thinking/feeling at the time. Use that excitement.

Think of it like research. One thing leads to another. The path is meandering. The objective isn't the completion of the book, it's to explore subjects you're interested in.

The answer is, it depends.

So for someone like me, my interest waxes and wanes. A new books is like the "new thing" and I have to dip into it and read it. But then inevitably I hear about another book, and all I want to do is rip into that one.

I like to focus on one book at a time, usually because:

the odds of me going back to a book are very slim
If I do go back to the book, the odds of the level of ease I'll be able to jump back in is severely hindered
I know that my interest in a new book is like an interest in a new woman... I only want it because it is new.

Most books if you're really chipping away at it and not spending time on Reddit or whatever else, should be finish-able most of the time in a week. Usually if I want to read a new book, I'll kick into a higher gear and finish the current book, which is very satisfying, and then start the new one.

The main reason I would ever do two books at once, is if the current book is extremely boring. I was reading some meditation book and the beginning was very good, but towards the middle they were literally saying the same fucking thing as the beginning of the book. I'm sure there were more relevant parts of the book, but I just decided to stop reading, especially since books like that are much more easy to pick up than other types of books.

I haven't been much of a book reader in all of my 17 years.

Then, start reading one first. Sometimes when we read too many books, reading comprehension goes down. So start easy, and then as you start reading more books, then have two or three.

Nobody reads more than one book at a time? Wow, I guess I'm that 1% I read 5, about 600pages every day or so.
