I was browsing reddit today and noticed this post on the relationships board.

The story is this: OP is a devoted, loving husband who has a good career and has always been clear that he wants to be a father. His wife plays along with the idea of wanting children, and puts on a convincing act for years. However, poor OP finds out one day that his wife has been deceitful to the point of murder, having aborted TWO of his children (!!!!) that he desperately wanted! I will confess I was blown away by the story, that level of betrayal, subversion, and treachery is truly sickening.

However, what was even more baffling was how aggressively harsh and unfair the overwhelming response was. Rather than being outraged on behalf of the poor husband who has just learned that he is the father of multiple dead children, they are literally "Furious on HER (wife's) behalf" because he confided in his own SISTER. Furthermore, what OP did was a "dealbreaker" and he is an "asshole". This was not an isolated opinion, comments reaming OP were highly upvoted and agreed with, while OP himself was downvoted into the triple digit negatives.

Oh well, maybe reddit is just quirky about the whole children thing in general, surely the circlejerk can't be that outright biased against husbands, right?

In a very similar post a few months ago, a woman tells that she had been trying to conceive a child with her husband, who, like in our first scenario, pretended to go along with the plans. However after some time, she learns that he was deceitful and had a vasectomy without telling her. How very hurtful and painful for her, and the comments affirm this by piling onto her husband, calling him every sort of negative invective from "jerk" to "sociopath".

While I agree that the husband in the second scenario was inexcusably awful, I don't understand the disparity in the response. For one thing, that husband just got a vasectomy, he wasn't literally KILLING HER CHILDREN. For another thing, although he apparently was going along with the act of trying to conceive, she had really strongarmed and begged him into it; he'd always been rather anti-children and she knew that before marrying him.

So with this information, why was the OP in the first scenario, who was truly innocent and shamelessly deceived by a traitorous wife, slandered and piled on? Commenters on that post hamstered and hamstered to imagine up any illogical tiny rationalization for how OP's wife might somehow not be at fault, to the point of accusing him of being abusive and her being too scared to tell him. Are you kidding me? Why did the woman in the second post get no such accusations? It is pointless for men to post to reddit, it's clear the woman ALWAYS gets benefit of the doubt, no matter the facts.

Anyway, I guess this post has me worked up, I apologize for the rant! I hope OP dumps her sorry butt and marry a good woman who gives him lots of children.
